✝️ IGNATIAN MEDITATION: PRAYING WITH SACRED SCRIPTURE
Developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola, Ignatian meditation helps us encounter Christ personally through prayerful reflection on the Gospel.
✝️ 1. SELECT A SCRIPTURE PASSAGE
Choose a passage from the Gospels or another part of Sacred Scripture.
Read it slowly and attentively.
✝️ 2. BEGIN WITH PRAYER
Place yourself in God's presence.
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your mind, heart, and imagination.
✝️ 3. READ AND VISUALIZE
Read the passage carefully.
Imagine the setting, the people, the sounds, and the atmosphere.
Allow the scene to become vivid in your mind.
✝️ 4. ASK GOD FOR A GRACE
Request a particular grace connected to the passage.
For example:
Greater faith
Deeper love for Christ
True repentance
Courage to follow God's will
✝️ 5. ENTER THE SCENE
Place yourself within the biblical event.
Watch what happens.
Listen to the words spoken.
Notice what draws your attention and moves your heart.
✝️ 6. CONVERSE WITH JESUS
Speak with Jesus as one friend speaks to another.
Share your thoughts, fears, hopes, questions, and desires.
Listen quietly for what He may be inviting you to understand or do.
✝️ 7. CLOSE WITH PRAYER
Thank God for the time of prayer and any insights received.
End with the Our Father, a prayer of thanksgiving, or another prayer from your heart.
✝️ REMEMBER
Ignatian meditation is not merely imagining a story.
It is a prayerful encounter with the living Christ through His Word.
The goal is not information alone, but transformation of the heart.
"Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening." (1 Samuel 3:9)
