“The three Rs of parenting: realism, relationship, and responsibility.

“To help you do this, we’ll try to help build a realistic framework for parenting. You’ll learn more about the importance of viewing parenting as cultivating a set of of— at times messy, but infinitely rewarding— relationships: parents with children, and children with God. You will hear us issue a clarion call not to abandon your children to the high winds and torrential waves of the culture!”

Psalm 119:132-133

[132] Turn to me and be gracious to me,
as is your way with those who love your name.
[133] Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
and let no iniquity get dominion over me.

Younger kids = 2-5. Older kids = 6-12. Try spending the next few weeks memorizing these verses and answers by reviewing them at the dinner table, on the drive to school or practice, at bedtime or when they ask to watch tv (😄).

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

[6] And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. [7] You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Leviticus 13:13 - Morning Devotional for Sep. 29th

"Behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague."

**Morning Thought**
Strange enough this regulation appears, yet there was wisdom in it, for the throwing out of the disease proved that the constitution was sound. This morning it may be well for us to see the typical teaching of so singular a rule. We, too, are l***rs, and may read the law of the l***r as applicable to ourselves. When a man sees himself to be altogether lost and ruined, covered all over with the defilement of sin, and no part free from pollution; when he disclaims all righteousness of his own, and pleads guilty before the Lord, then is he clean through the blood of Jesus, and the grace of God. Hidden, unfelt, unconfessed iniquity is the true leprosy, but when sin is seen and felt it has received its death blow, and the Lord looks with eyes of mercy upon the soul afflicted with it. Nothing is more deadly than self-righteousness, or more hopeful than contrition. We must confess that we are "nothing else but sin," for no confession short of this will be the whole truth, and if the Holy Spirit be at work with us, convincing us of sin, there will be no difficulty about making such an acknowledgment-it will spring spontaneously from our lips. What comfort does the text afford to those under a deep sense of sin! Sin mourned and confessed, however black and foul, shall never shut a man out from the Lord Jesus. Whosoever cometh unto him, he will in no wise cast out. Though dishonest as the thief, though unchaste as the woman who was a sinner, though fierce as Saul of Tarsus, though cruel as Manasseh, though rebellious as the prodigal, the great heart of love will look upon the man who feels himself to have no soundness in him, and will pronounce him clean, when he trusts in Jesus crucified. Come to him, then, poor heavy-laden sinner,

Come needy, come guilty, come loathsome and bare;

You can't come too filthy-come just as you are.

I was 19 when my home church asked me to be their youth minister. I didn't know what that was, but I said "yes" (Actually, I probably just nodded). Twenty-six years and a few moves later and today is my last official day as a youth pastor. There are too many people to thank for all the support given throughout the years.
I appreciate the Lord giving me a front row seat to watch Him work in the lives of students throughout the years. Any good that was accomplished was all His doing. All the mistakes were mine. (Except for that hole in the wall of the fellowship hall at Crowder FBC. That was totally Jason Lloyd). But what a joy it's been to watch students come to saving faith in Jesus and see them mature in Him. I love it when I get a text, phone call or random meme from them, and then to hear how they are serving the Lord in their own context as a pastor, coach, salesman, missionary, mom, or dad. God adds grace upon grace.

I do want to thank my wife, who served alongside me 22 of those 26 years. She has been my constant encouragement and help. She was the gracious hostess when we lived right next to the church and had students over constantly. She made countless birthday cakes and favorite desserts upon their request, so often with a last minute’s notice from me. In our later years, when our kids came along, she made sacrifice after sacrifice so that I could go and serve. She endured many hard weeks on her own with our children so that I could take our students to camp. She has sacrificed being a part of fellowships and classes for adults, to be by my side helping serve students. She is amazing and next to Jesus, God's greatest blessing to me.

Thank you, Calvary Baptist, for the last 13 years. Half of my ministry thus far has been as a member of this family. You have been a tremendous blessing and a precious gift to me. I love and appreciate every youth worker that helped out along the way. Each one of you have been a blessing. I won't try and name you all because I would unintentionally leave someone out and then I would feel awful about it once I realized it. Thank you to every praying saint and all your love for students. You have continually given time and resources to invest in their spiritual growth. Thank you so much. And with the new addition of Bro. Clint as youth pastor, you have again shown that you are committed to our students growing in the Lord.

Tomorrow, I will transition to the role of Pastor of Family Discipleship and Education. I look forward to serving parents of children and teens by helping to equip them to bring up their children in the training and instruction of the Lord. And I'll be working to develop an overall family ministry strategy at Calvary. This has been on my heart for years and I'm grateful for this opportunity as well. “O to Grace, how great a debtor, daily I’m constrained to be.” As always, “I love you guys, and

God bless you and your family!
