The First Presbyterian Church of Maywood

The First Presbyterian Church of Maywood The First Presbyterian Church of Maywood Nestled in the heart of Maywood, we are the community church right around the corner. All are welcome.

We have undergone many transitions over the years, but the heart of what we do is proclaim Jesus Christ to the Maywood community. To this end, we invite you to join in our worship and work. Our history, according to the history written by a beloved former pastor, begins with the Dutch Reformed church in the latter-half of the 17th century. More formally, our roots begin with the Maywood Christian

Association founded in 1913. The Association was made up members of various denominations who, at a meeting on October 2nd, voted to become Presbyterian. The rest, as they say, is history. What all of this reveals to us is that God has always been in our midst as a force bringing various groups of believes together to worship God and glorify the Lord in our work. We continue that tradition today, housing two other church ministries, a Korean/Korean-American Presbyterian fellowship (The Giving Church), as well as a majority African-American Pentecostal church (The Tabernacle of Life). Our prayer is that in all we say and do, we would promote the unity of the body of Christ and labor towards proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord. The Reverend Samuel Weddington is our current pastor.

Sunday school has been busy learning about the fruits of the spirit.

Bananas (banana can be eaten in so many ways, we can use the fruits of the spirit to help us in many situations.)
Apples (an apple a day keeps the doctor away, we talked about ways we can heal spiritually.)
Grapes (no one eats just one grape. We need friends and family to share our love and joy. Then enjoyed fellowship with our church family. )
Strawberries (like the seeds of the strawberry, show your faith and love, don’t keep the important stuff inside.)

(See photo captions for details)
