Open Forums Tomorrow

We’ve scheduled open forums after the worship services at both congregations this Sunday, April 12, to give members the opportunity to learn more about the call that Pastor Carter has received from St. John's Lutheran Church in Tomah and the process we use to extend divine calls to pastors. These forums will also give Pastor Carter the opportunity to ask questions that will help him in his deliberations.

Note: There may be some value for members of one congregation to attend the other congregation’s forum, especially if you’re interested in hearing the questions the other congregation may have about the call or the answers the other congregation may have for Pastor Carter’s questions. Please feel free to do so, if you wish.

Worship Schedule Change Tomorrow

We’re changing the worship schedule this Sunday, April 12, in order to give Pastor Carter more time between the services to attend the open forum at St. Paul’s. St. Paul’s service next Sunday will begin at 8:00 a.m., half an hour earlier, and St. Peter’s service next Sunday will begin at 10:30 a.m., half an hour later.

We're also announcing this on Facebook and on St. Paul’s website. If you can think of anyone who might want to attend or needs to know about this schedule change, but may not get these electronic messages, please share this with them.

Dear members of St. Paul’s and St. Peter's,

Divine Call Received

The announcement below will appear in Sunday's bulletin. Because it is also being announced elsewhere, we thought it would be good to make you aware of it before Sunday, so that you don't hear it somewhere else first.

====================================

Divine Call Received - Pastor Carter has received a divine call to serve as the pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ridgeway Township, about seven miles south of Tomah, Wisconsin. St. John is a small, rural congregation whose previous pastor died of cancer in January. The call also includes a few responsibilities at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the larger WELS church in Tomah. This is the same call that Pastor Kuske from Town Lomira recently returned.

Please keep Pastor Carter and his family in your prayers as he prayerfully considers where best to use his gifts in God’s kingdom at this time.

Please also keep St. John’s in your prayers during their vacancy as they wait for the man the Lord will bring them as their new pastor.

We hope to schedule open forums at both congregations soon to give members the opportunity to learn more about the call process and this particular call and to give Pastor Carter the opportunity to ask questions that will help him in his deliberations.

TOMORROW'S OPEN FORUM and VOTERS MEETING CANCELLED (Sun Jan 18)

Because Pastor Carter was not able to finish the work of putting together and then printing all the reports for the Annual Report before he left for Minnesota for his father's funeral, Chairman Schall has made the decision to cancel the Open Forum and Voters Meeting scheduled for after the service tomorrow (Sun Jan 18).

We will reschedule the meeting for one of the Sundays in February. Please watch the bulletins for an announcement of that date.

You can help us get the word out if you are able to share this with anyone you know that may not have Internet access or aren't on Facebook (or both).

TODAY'S CLASSES and MEETINGS CANCELLED - I have completed the work that I needed to do in person this week in Minnesota and am back home in Brownsville. However, because there are still quite a few things I need to do with my father's affairs, along with many things I need to work on to catch up on work I got behind on during all the times I've been away recently, as well as some things I need to work ahead on so that I can attend my father's funeral next weekend, it's important that I cancel the meetings and classes that were scheduled for today. If you were supposed to or planning to attend one of those classes or meetings, you can help me by contacting anyone else who needs to know this and might not be able to get this message on Facebook or the one I'm about to send by email. Thank you. Pastor Carter

All are invited to join us for our Joint Children's Christmas service tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. in the gymnasium at St. Paul's, Brownsville.

The theme of the service is inspired by the candles on the traditional Advent wreath.

The students of St. Luke's Lutheran School in Oakfield will present the service. Quite a few members and former members of St. Paul's are attending St. Luke's.

Please also remember that this means that there will be no 8:30 service at St. Paul's tomorrow and no service at all at St. Peter's.

Hope to see you all at St. Paul's at 10:00 tomorrow!

Forecasters have been talking about the possibility of some serious wind chills tonight and tomorrow morning. Because there are enough members who live close enough to both churches to get there more safely, we are planning to have services at both places at the usual times of 8:30 and 10:00.

We ask everyone to make safe decisions in the morning. We also want to remind you that you can watch St. Paul's 8:30 service online at www.facebook.com/stpaulsbrownsville/live.

Please contact Pastor Carter if you have any questions.

Based on the number of people who attended this morning's services and the number of people who appear to have watched the livestream, along with the feedback we received, a) that older members may be less likely to want to go out in the winter and in the dark, and b) that we already have another opportunity for worship this week with the Midweek Advent services this Wednesday (Dec 3) at St. Paul's and this Thursday (Dec 4) at St. Peter's, we have made the decision not to offer the Monday night services that we had considered offering.

Please let Pastor Carter know if you have any questions.

We are planning to have our worship services at the regular times tomorrow morning (Sun Dec 1 - 8:30 at St. Paul's; 10:00 at St. Peter's). We realize that blowing and drifting snow might make it difficult or unsafe for some of you to get here, but also realize that there are quite a few members of both congregations who live close enough to church (as well as about 25 members of my family still at my house) to get there quite safely.

We ask everyone to make safe decisions in the morning. We also want to remind everyone of the address for watching St. Paul's 8:30 service online (www.facebook.com/stpaulsbrownsville/live). We also would appreciate your input on the possibility of offering services on Monday evening (Dec 2). If we do that, there will be a 4:30 service at St. Peter's and a 6:30 service at St. Paul's. We hope to make a final decision about offering those service by sometime early tomorrow afternoon.

Please contact Pastor Carter if you have any questions, or if you have any input on the possibility of offering services Monday evening.

My understanding of the weather forecast for tomorrow morning suggests that, while there may be a bit of snow tomorrow morning, it won't be anything like what's coming later in the afternoon. So I'm going to suggest that you still try to get the decorating done tomorrow at 9:00. I will also suggest that you not dawdle too much, because heavier snow will start in the afternoon.

Reminder:

Joint Picnic Service today for all the congregations of the Flyway Circuit. The service will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Theresa Firemen's Park on the west side of Theresa. Please bring your own lawn chairs and a dish to pass (hot meat sandwiches will be provided). If you can't bring a chair or a dish, please come anyway: there are a few chairs at the park and there will be plenty of food!

This means that there will be no services this morning at any of the circuit congregations, including St. Peter's. Hope to see you all at Theresa.

Note: for those who aren't able to join us, the service will be recorded and posted later on our page and on the Flyway Circuit Joint Ministry page.
