✨Parishioner Pick: Christine Fuhs✨
It is an honor to be nominated as this week’s parishioner pick. My name is Christine Fuhs. I am the oldest of 3 children. My mother was a young parent, yet saw a great value in sending us all to Catholic Schools. As a young girl, I lived in Northfield. My earliest remembrance was going to mass at the VFW while St Bernadette’s was being built. I attended St Joseph’s School in Somers Point. When it was time for my brothers to go to school, St Joe’s had no available openings, so they began their education right here at St Vincent’s in the late 1960’s. Imagine, they were bussed all the way from Northfield! In 6th grade my family moved to Galloway where we all attended Assumption School in Pomona. I met my husband, Paul, at Absegami High School. After my college graduation from LaSalle University in 1982 we were married. We made our home here in Mays Landing and joined St. Vincent DePaul parish. We have one daughter, Ashley, who attended SVDP School. During that time, I was an officer in the Family-School Association and chaired the then famous Penny Auction, as well as taught CCD for a short time. Paul coached the girl’s JV and Varsity basketball team. We met wonderful forever friends from those school years. Today, Ashley lives in PA with her husband and their 5 year old son, (our grandson), who attends Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School in Maple Glen, PA.
Now retired, I taught special education for 35 years. I started at the Helmbold Education Center (now ACSSSD) and taught 28 years with Galloway Township Public Schools. I was a past 4Her, both member and leader. I am involved with the Charity League of Atlantic County and several teacher organizations.
Paul and I spend part of our year in Naples Fl, where we attend St Agnes Catholic Church. For many years, I attended Mass in several local Parishes. One Sunday, I returned to St Vincent’s and knew I was at last home. I am filled with joy seeing familiar faces and all the families fill our church. I love the energy here at SVDP and the enthusiasm of Fr. March to get everyone involved. Sometimes when I am homesick in FL, I will watch the 10:45 Mass live on-line.It’s so comforting to be able to worship, hear the Word of our Lord, and Praise God with such a faith-filled community.
