As always, many have begun the New Year with declarations of what the year will be and what they will accomplish. In all of the commentary and resolution-making, my prayer is that this will be the year to SEEK THE LORD for all of us. I mean to seek him as never before. To seek him beyond the stories you read and the sermons that are preached.
THE CALL IS TO GO DEEPER
Sadly, many of us are still mere churchgoers. We have declared salvation, but are still functioning under the old operating system (your old ways). You recited a prayer and after you said amen, you basically said, God, you can go now. I got it from here."
In other words, you have actually never truly walked away from your old self, way of thinking, and functioning. You said the words, but held on to your ways. This is not sustainable. It is the reason for the double-mindedness, the spiritual defeat, the collapsed areas in your life, the absence of power, and the higher love and preference for that which is against the will of God.
I believe that 2024 is going to be a very heavy year. Those who prevail and will live the blessed life will be those who are undivided in their love and commitment to Christ. You do not have to be perfect, but you do need to choose Christ and to walk away from the old you. You may have to walk away from what you want badly if it has your heart. God is jealous. Your heart, thinking, lifestyle choices etc must be grounded on a biblical worldview. Then you will not be troubled by the famine, pestilence (pandemic diseases), wars, and the darkness that abounds. In the words of Christ, "these things must take place". See to it that you are not afraid. The end is near, but not yet. Matthew 24
