In Acts 4, the disciples recognize the opposition of Israel’s rulers and the Gentiles as the raging nations of Psalm 2 gathering against God’s Anointed King. Rather than retreat, the church prays for boldness to proclaim Christ. May we be ever confident that the risen King has received the nations and His kingdom cannot be stopped!

Do we live on “stolen land”?

Absolutely not.

In Matthew 24:10–13, Jesus reveals that persecution wasn't merely something the early church endured—it was something Christ used. The birth pangs preceding Jerusalem's destruction would expose false disciples, purify the visible church, and reveal those whose faith was genuine.

This message explores the intentional connection between Matthew 24 and the Parable of the Soils, showing that Jesus had already explained why some would fall away, why others would be deceived, and why only those who endure would be revealed as His true disciples.

Jerusalem was headed for judgment—but Jesus’ next warning was even more personal. Before the Temple fell, His disciples would be arrested, beaten, & killed, at the hands of Jews and Gentiles alike because they confessed His name.

Before telling His disciples what the sign would be, Jesus first warned them what the sign was not. False christs would attempt to lead them astray. Fighting nations would threaten to frighten them. Frightening disasters would shake the world around them. But these events were not the decisive sign. They were only “the beginning of birth pangs.”

In this message, we examine the biblical and historical evidence surrounding the years between Christ’s resurrection and Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70—and discover why these upheavals were not evidence that Christ’s kingdom had failed, but that the old covenant order was passing away and the reign of the true Messiah was advancing.

Jesus has declared that the Temple will be utterly destroyed. The disciples know what is coming. Their unsettled dilemma is when.

“Tell us, when will these things happen, & what will be the sign of Your coming, & of the end of the age?” — Matthew 24:3

These are not the speculative questions of prophecy-chart enthusiasts. They are the trembling questions of men whose entire covenantal world has just been shaken.

The Temple will fall.
The Old Covenant age will end.
The Son of Man will be vindicated.
The Kingdom will no longer be centered in Jerusalem, but in the risen Christ ruling from heaven.
