Romans 12:17–21 forbids revenge, forbids fleshly retaliation, and commands believers to answer evil with good. Last week Pastor Matt showed how the power of multiplication enabled the apostles and the early church to change the world so quickly. Godly men became examples for others to imitate, and those who followed their example became examples themselves. As that life-on-life discipleship continued, the gospel “sounded forth” not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in “every place.” Through the power of multiplication, the influence of faithful Christians reached far beyond the places the apostles themselves had ever gone.

This week, Pastor Matt explains an essential qualification: Christianity is not a Lone Ranger faith. God is not simply multiplying isolated believers, but building one unified body made up of many members with different gifts and callings. In Romans 12:3–8, we see that Christians are called to a right view of themselves, a right view of others, and faithful cooperation within the body as together we labor to disciple the nations.

When we look at the enemy all around us, we may be tempted to despair. The enemies of Christ control the news media, the entertainment sector, the monetary supply, education, and virtually every elected official in Washington’s uni-party. Yes, it's bad out there.

It seems as if there are no quick solutions, but God has turned things around quickly before. We see one such example in 1st Century Thessalonica. Paul, Silvanus, & Timothy 'turned the world upside down' (Acts 17:6). In I Thessalonians 1:5-7 we see the simplicity of their world-flipping method. &, spoiler alert; it’s men. Convictional, Holy Spirit filled, unflinching men, who pour into other men, who pour into other men.

The transformation of our nation by the power of God depends upon the mobilization of men who have been transformed by the power of the Gospel,

Follow such men.

Be that kind of man.

Invite others to follow you as you follow Christ.

There is a seemingly endless stream of inaccurate political rhetoric flooding our culture today — rhetoric designed to advance a destabilizing agenda.

Do we live on “stolen land”?
Are we a “nation of immigrants”?
Was this country built by greedy, oppressive colonizers?

Absolutely not.

In Lecture 8, Pastor Matt examines the complicated, messy history of the American continent and draws important distinctions between settlers, colonizers, and immigrants.

Our forefathers were not the villains of history. They were overwhelmingly Christian men — imperfect, yes — but driven by conviction, courage, and a vision that has undeniably blessed the world.

From emperor-as-divine to Christ as the only true King & Judge.
