October is Pastor Appreciation Month, and while there are so many faithful pastors out there worthy of honor, I want to talk about mine.
Pastor Mike.
Not because he has a huge platform.
Not because he’s written a bestselling book.
Not because thousands of people know his name.
But because I know what it costs him to keep showing up.
I see the things most people will never see.
I see the weight he carries home.
I see the conversations that stay on his heart long after they’re over.
I see the prayers prayed when nobody else is around.
I see the hours spent studying, preparing, counseling, checking on people, answering calls, solving problems, carrying burdens, and trying to faithfully shepherd the people God has entrusted to him.
I see how deeply he loves people.
And sometimes, I see how deeply loving people hurts.
I’ve watched this man walk through his own wounds and still make room for somebody else’s. I’ve watched him get tired and keep serving. Get discouraged and keep preaching. Get hurt and keep loving. Carry things he cannot publicly talk about and still stand up on Sunday morning and point people to Jesus.
There is nothing glamorous about most ministry.
Most pastors will never have a massive following.
Most will never preach to thousands.
Most will never have their name on a conference banner.
They’ll preach to the same little church.
Pray for the same families.
Sit beside hospital beds.
Walk people through marriages, funerals, addictions, crises, victories, failures, and everything in between.
And then they’ll get up the next Sunday and do it all over again.
That is the kind of pastor I admire.
And that is the kind of pastor I’m married to.
Mike, I know this calling has cost you things most people will never understand. I know there are days the burden feels incredibly heavy. But I also know you love Jesus, you love His Word, and you genuinely love the people He has asked you to shepherd.
I am so incredibly proud of you.
Treehouse family, love your pastor well.
Pray for him.
Encourage him.
Protect his family.
Give him grace.
Tell him when something he preached changed you.
Remind him that what he is doing matters.
Not just during Pastor Appreciation Month.
Especially on the days nobody is watching.
I love you, Pastor Mike.
And I would choose to stand beside you in this calling all over again.
