REMEMBRANCE OF 9/11
It was 25 years ago that people who boarded planes in Boston, rushed to their offices in the twin World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon or reported for work as New York firefighters or police officers became the focus of a tragedy that changed all our lives forever. From that day on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field in Somerset County Pennsylvania became sacred ground and the final destination of 2998 people. Today we remember and honor them.

God of Peace and Consolation, we pray that the nations of the world, increasingly drawn together, meditate on the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, and firmly resolve to end the ethnic, racial and religious struggles which claim so many innocent victims each year. September 11th reminds us that a single event can change our lives forever, just as the current social unrest, mass killings caused by gun violence and the volatile political atmosphere are forcing a change in our society. May voices raised in anger be silenced so that a prayer for peace from the silent lips of the victims of 9/11 and other heartbreaking tragedies may be heard. Let each of us promise today to strive to promote peace and understanding among all people by our own actions. Let each of us be the peacemakers who Jesus called the “children of God.” In the words of the song, “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.” Lord, we pray through the intercession of St. Angela, Sr. Dorothy Kazel and all the saints and martyrs who offered their lives for the cause of peace, in the name of Christ Jesus the prince of Peace. Amen

God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the worker. Make a place in our hearts for compassion to the men and women who labor tirelessly for basic necessities. Ensure a place for the men and women who are struggling to find work. Grant us your wisdom to greet and care for those who are unable to work due to illness or circumstances that prevent their participation. Be with the children who are not able to run and play, but instead must put in a hard day’s work to help their family afford to eat, to live. Be with us all, Christ Jesus, as we go about the busyness of our work. Hold us accountable not only for our actions, but most importantly to each of our neighbors. May we continue to work together to bring about your reign! We ask this in your holy name, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. ~USCCB
