Hello,
This cemetery is very near and dear to my family. We have numerous relatives who once lived and worked on this land and who were buried here at the Maxwell Hispanic Cemetery. My grandfather Fernando Rocha upkept this cemetery until the day he died in 2010 at the young age of 103 years. My family & mainly my mother and father kept their promise to my grandfather to keep the cemetery going and one day find others who have had their beloved relatives buried here to safely visit their loved ones.
Through the years the private land that the cemetery sits on has changed several owners. Every owner my mother has had some contact with and was allowed on the property to "visit" the graves. At that time she and my dad would clean these graves and give them much-needed love. However, since the start of COVID in 2019 and their age, & the pending sale of the land to a new owner/developer. The cemetery has been overgrown with trees, and tall grass and riddled with rattlesnakes. We are in the process of getting the Texas Historical Commission to have a historical plaque placed on the cemetery. We want to save it from any new developments that the new land owner may have in mind in the near future and also hope to have a public road built so relatives of the deceased can visit. However, this takes volunteers, manpower, machinery to clean up this cemetery. My parents in their mid 70's cannot do this on their own anymore with two lawnmowers and a w**d eater. We need the help more than ever now. If you know anyone buried in this cemetery or remember your abuelitos, your padres, or older tios speaking of this cemetery in the middle of Maxwell somewhere. Please reach out to me. I have a list of confirmed burials that I have been putting together since I graduated high school in 2005. I've grown up cleaning this cemetery every start of spring and summer since 1994. No one knows as much as my family knows about this cemetery. Let's put the pieces together so you can see your loved ones!
If you may think that your relative is buried here please send me a message with their name, first and last. Their mother's name & maiden name with their father's name. Their date of birth or date of death. Anything useful to help me find them and verify if they are indeed buried at the Maxwell Hispanic Cemetery.
Thank you for your time,
Hope to hear from you.
