Why do we genuflect? Is it something we just do when we enter our pew because that's what we were always told to do? Does it matter which knee we use?

According to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, “A genuflection, made by bending the right knee to the ground, signifies adoration, and therefore it is reserved for the Most Blessed Sacrament, as well as for the Holy Cross from the solemn adoration during the liturgical celebration on Good Friday until the beginning of the Easter Vigil.”

Today marks 25 years since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a day forever etched into the memory of our nation.

We remember the thousands of lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the families who still carry the weight of that day and all whose lives were forever changed.

As people of faith, we entrust those who died to the mercy of God and pray for a world transformed by the peace of Christ.

Calling himself “the slave of the slaves forever,” St. Peter Claver met people who had been stripped of their freedom and dignity with food, medicine, compassion and the love of Christ while serving enslaved Africans in Colombia. He reportedly baptized hundreds of thousands during nearly 40 years of ministry.

Today is a birthday! 🎉 The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

So, what could you give Mary for her birthday? Perhaps the best gift is one she would pass on to her Son: pray a Rosary, spend a few minutes with Jesus, perform an act of kindness or ask Mary to help you grow closer to Christ.

Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!
