Think about a demonstration of power and authority that takes your breath awayโperhaps a tornado or hurricane, a rocket launch, or an unforgettable moment in a movie. Those displays pale in comparison to the ten plagues God sent over what was likely several months, compelling Pharaoh to release the people of Israel.โฃ
โฃ
Each plague corresponded to an Egyptian god, demonstrating that the Lord alone has authority over every power people trust in. The ten plagues were: water turned to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, death of livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and finally the death of the firstborn.โฃ
โฃ
The plagues were more than acts of judgment. At first, they were largely inconveniences affecting both Egyptians and Israelites, and Pharaoh's magicians could even imitate some of them. But as the plagues intensified, God began making a distinction between Egypt and His people. The magicians reached the end of their abilities, while God's power became increasingly undeniable.โฃ
โฃ
During this time, Moses also grew. The man who once questioned his calling became increasingly confident as he faithfully obeyed God. His influence and respect grew, even among the Egyptians. Pharaoh, however, continued down the path of a hardened heart. Though he experienced moments of temporary regret, he repeatedly chose resistance until God confirmed him in that decision, displaying His own power and glory. Egypt came to see that Pharaoh, considered a divine ruler, could not even protect his own people.โฃ

Two lasting truths emerge from these chapters. ๐๐ช๐ณ๐ด๐ต, ๐๐ฐ๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ด ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฆ ๐ข๐ถ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ช๐ต๐บ ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐บ ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ต๐ข๐ช๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ญ๐ช๐ง๐ฆ, ๐บ๐ฆ๐ต ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ญ๐ญ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด ๐ต๐ฐ ๐๐ช๐ฎ. Hard things will pass, but God's glory never will. In every trialโfrom life's inconveniences to its deepest lossesโwe can ask, "God, what are You doing? Show me Your power," and trust His comfort, His care, and His purposes.โฃ

God's power invites our trust and our obedience. โฃ
