Here’s your sign!
As I drive to work every day, I pass a church sign with messages that change every few weeks. Today’s message got my attention and made me think a bit partly because I made a resolution this year to read my bible all the way through in a year. I am not big on resolutions, probably because like most people, I fail at them in the first month or two! LOL I have probably in theory, read the whole contents of the bible over the years a few times, but I had never taken the time to read it all the way through, from the beginning to the end, something my wife has done a couple of times now. This year I decided to get it done, and in my normal fashion of being different, I decided to read it in chronological order! I liked this idea because it puts all the events in the order they happen, something I thought would be more interesting and helpful!
Now to be honest, I am actually listening to someone else read it more than I am reading the pages myself, but I am ok with that because I discovered a long time ago after getting an A in an English class on an assigned book, that I never actually read, don’t tell my teacher! I did that by paying attention in class to the discussion questions on the book, in short, I listened! I failed a pop quiz or two of course during that quarter, but I got an A on all the test which in the long run counted much more than the occasional pop quiz. We all learn differently, while I am a fair reader, it’s not uncommon for me to sit down and read a western in a couple of settings when I am in the mood, unfortunately, I don’t read my bible that same way, or maybe I don’t choose to, even so that’s no excuse not to learn what it says.
Using that same theology, I figured the main point of reading the bible was to know what it says in it, So I bought an audio book subscription and started to listen as I drive down the highway. By doing this, I find it is actually quite interesting and verry easy to keep up with the bible in a year plan. It also helps to pass the time driving and helps keep me awake. When I get the days passage listened to, sometimes twice, I simply change gears and listen to a audio book, I find that doing this is much more enjoyable than listening to the radio some days!
So, all this brings me to my point, the sign said, we should spend more time in the bible than we spend on Facebook, while I don’t as a rule spend much time on here, I still on average had spent more time here occasionally, than I did reading my bible! The more I thought of that the more I realized the truth in what the sign had said. So, I made a change and, If you have read your way through this post and perhaps a few more post, you have probably spent more than enough time to have read or listened to the chapters necessary (TO READ THE BIBLE IN A YEAR).
The daily audio message takes about 15 minutes a day to listen to. Think about how you spend your time each day, stop making the excuse you aren’t a good reader, or don't have the time, because that is an excuse, like me, you just haven’t chosen to do it! In this day and age of technology, its verry easy to read or listen to the bible, you can do it on your smart phone even in multiple versions! I am currently using a NLT version, but there are multiple versions and apps you can use that expresses God’s word in ways you can understand without needing someone to tell you what it means! I am actually finding the Chronological version in the NLT translation verry interesting.
Another great advantage to reading or listening to your bible, is of course ------NO People DRAMA !!!!!!!!!! Have a great day!!
