This week's message, "Heartbreak Hotel: The Myths That Keep You Checked-In," was Week 5 of a series confronting the false belief that real Christians shouldn't struggle mentally or emotionally. The pastor opened with a vulnerable personal confession about quietly battling anxiety and bitterness despite an outwardly stable life, then walked through biblical figures like Elijah, David, Jeremiah, Jonah, Moses, Job, Naomi, and Noah—all of whom hit genuine breaking points, proving that mental and emotional struggle doesn't disqualify someone from faith but reveals their humanity.

Two myths were dismantled: that "real Christians don't struggle with mental health" and that "God doesn't care about your mental health," countered with Scriptures showing God's nearness to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and even Heman's unresolved lament in Psalm 88. The message emphasized that salvation doesn't instantly fix every broken area of life, and that pursuing therapy, medication, or rest is not a lack of faith but stewardship of the whole person—spirit, soul, and mind. It closed with a call to lean the full weight of our burdens onto God (Isaiah 26:3, Samak) and to view Heartbreak Hotel as a place to check into for healing, but never to live in permanently—since Jesus is the road that leads out.

But God's Word reminds us that freedom in Christ is intentional, not accidental, and it's on us to "stand firm" once we're set free. This means staying careful with our inputs, habits, and relationships, while also staying prayerful because prayer isn't just prep for the fight—it is the fight.

The same God who started the healing in you is faithful to finish it, so don't let pride or fear convince you that your progress won't last. Bottom line: you heal by grace, but you stay healed by grace plus daily discipline.

Do you have a "junk drawer" in your soul? 🤔 This week, Pastor Brad opened with that relatable image—the dead batteries, mystery keys, and useless junk we hang onto—as a picture of the anxiety, bitterness, and pain we've quietly learned to live with instead of letting God heal us.

Diving into John 5:1-9, we met the man at the Pool of Bethesda who had been stuck for 38 years. Jesus asks him one piercing question: "Do you want to get well?" And instead of a simple "yes," the man makes an excuse—just like we so often do.

Here's the truth we walked away with: Grace initiates healing, but faith must participate. God's grace meets us right where we are, but He's calling us off the comfortable "porch" and into the "pool" of faith-filled action.

Don't let a diagnosis, a habit, or a wound become your identity. Do what you can, and trust God to do what you can't. 🙌
