Sermon: Romans 1:24-32 | Ian Stamps

One of the most sobering truths in Romans 1 is that God’s judgment is not always seen in suffering or hardship. Sometimes it is seen in God giving people over to the very sins they refuse to turn from.

When humanity rejects God’s truth, He gives them over to their sinful desires. What the world celebrates as freedom can actually be evidence of His judgment.

A comfortable life is not evidence of God’s approval, and a life lived apart from Him is never truly flourishing.

Our greatest need is not comfort or earthly happiness, but repentance and reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ.

2 From the fruit of a man’s mouth he eats what is good,
But the soul of the treacherous desires violence.
3 The one who guards his mouth keeps his soul;
The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
But the soul of the diligent is enriched.
5 A righteous man hates a lying word,
But a wicked man acts odiously and is humiliated.
6 Righteousness guards the one whose way is blameless,
But wickedness subverts the sinner.

Sermon: Romans 1:24-32 | Ian Stamps

When people continually reject God’s truth, one expression of His judgment is to give them over to the sinful desires of their hearts.

This passage reminds us of our own dire need for God’s mercy. We must not mistake His patience for approval for our sin.

There is incredible hope in Christ.

The same God who judges sin gave His own Son to save sinners (Romans 8:32).

May this passage lead us to repentance, and deepen our gratitude for the mercy we have received in Christ.

John Mueth | Sermon: Acts 14:8-18

In Acts 14:8–18, the people witness the power of God, yet bow before false gods.

That is the tragedy of idolatry: receiving God’s gifts while giving His glory to another.

The rain and harvest were witnesses to the God they refused to worship. They lived on His goodness while giving His glory to another.

Our idols promise life but cannot give it. They demand our devotion and yet leave us empty.

Why give your heart to idols that can never satisfy it?

Only the living God can give to us the life our souls need.
