“AN HOUR WITH ELEANOR”, Written and performed by Cynthia Krause performed at Mattapoisett Congregational Church on Saturday, September 26 at 4 pm. Tickets available to purchase on Thursdays at the church office between 8-1 pm.

“I was a LITTLE controversial”, so says Eleanor Roosevelt in her opening greeting in “An Hour With Eleanor” written and acted by Cynthia Krause. This one woman play was the winner of the 2022-23 Marion Art Center Playwriting Incubator Contest. Eleanor journeys from a shy, lonely child to a world-renowned UN human rights advocate, We see her struggle from her days at a French boarding school to leading suffragette movement, fighting for an eight hour, five day work week, teaching civil rights workshops and traveling to the islands of the South Pacific to carry messages home for the thousands of troops during World War II. Born of the Victorian Age, Eleanor blossomed into one of the most beloved and remarkable First Ladies of all time. Surprisingly, the Grand Dame of mid-century America says, in her self-effacing manner, “My job was to be useful”. The history is all there, revealed in the emotions of this great lady.

Come. Witness. Learn. Be inspired. Eleanor shines the way.

Tickets are $10 in advance by contacting the church office at 508-758-2671, stopping by the office on Thursdays from 8-1 pm or $12 at the door. All proceeds benefit the Mattapoisett Congregational Church Capital Campaign fund.

Good people,

We have a very exciting service planned this Sunday! Twelve new members will be welcomed into the church and will we will be celebrating four Baptisms and one Affirmation of Faith. God’s blessings abound! A special cake will be served at fellowship time.

My sermon this week will address different ways people interpret the Bible. Every Bible story communicates God’s Word to us, God’s people. Some Christian traditions teach that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. Others interpret Holy Scripture as stories told to communicate how people should live in healthy relationship with God and others. I believe that reading scripture as story allows us to more deeply engage the text and discover the metaphorical truth that each story has to reveal.

I’ll have much more to say about this on Sunday and I look forward to being with you as we begin to study the Bible through the lens of story. May God bless you and may God bless our understanding of God’s Holy Word!

Pastor Michael
