We are a Roman Catholic parish community located within the diocese of Youngstown, Ohio and found on the westside of Massillon , Ohio - a small town of about 35,000 situated in northeast Ohio 55 miles southwest of Cleveland. Barbara's was established in 1867 under Bishop Amadeus Rapp the bishop of what was then the Diocese of Cleveland. Our school was founded a year previously in 1866. For over 14

4 years St. Barbara's has witnessed the Good News of Jesus Christ to the citizens of our community and beyond. We are a vibrant blue collar parish comprised of descendants of German immigrants who came to Massillon looking for a better life in America. Our ancestors in Faith were hard working coal miners who worked the mines in an area that was formerly known as “ West Brookfield .” The parish was fittingly placed under the patronage of St. Barbara who is the patroness of coal miners.
