The Exodus story is full of courageous people doing amazing things. On August 23 we heard how the midwives Shiphrah and Puah took action to protect the vulnerable, and on August 30 we heard how Moses' mother takes the brave step of placing baby Moses in a basket and floating him down the Nile.

Poet Jan Richardson wrote a prayer in response to these powerful stories, which she titles "Fierce Blessing." Pastor Megan shared this blessing in worship, and you can read Jan's words here: https://paintedprayerbook.com/2014/08/18/fierce-blessing/

Have you ever heard the names Shiphrah and Puah? If you haven't, you're not alone! These women are unsung heroes of the bible: they were the midwives who disobeyed the direct orders of Pharoah. Because Puah and Shiphrah had the courage to do what was right, Moses was able to survive and thrive - and later lead God's people out of Egypt to freedom.

Praying for all those affected by flooding, storms, and other natural disasters - for those affected here in the Midwest, in Hawaii, and across the world.

Over the past week, people across the Midwest U.S. have been impacted by historic levels of flash flooding and severe storms. At least seven people have died, and thousands of residents have been affected by devastating home and infrastructure damage.

UMCOR is responding to the needs of these individuals and families through solidarity grants to the West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church and the Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church - INUMC, which will amplify their relief efforts as they distribute supplies and support local churches that are preparing and distributing food and helping residents with flood clean-up.
