“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

- Jesus (The Gospel according to John)

The scene is set. Jesus gathers at the table with his disciples to break bread and break the news that this is their Last Supper together. Alarming fear, bitter betrayal, and tension-laden uncertainty fill the room. In the midst of this unsettling moment, the Gospel of John records Jesus’ “famous last words.” Central among these was the commandment to love one another. How do we survive, or even thrive, in times like these? We put love into action, replacing “othering” with “neighboring.”

Jesus’ commandment, and the fruit we must bear, all point to the same thing–love. But the kind of abiding love Jesus commands is not possible without The Vine. As they drink w**e over their Last Meal together, Jesus turns to a vineyard metaphor to draw them more closely together. We cannot love fully without accepting that we are loved, that we are nurtured, by the Source. And we cannot love fully without pruning those things that create barriers to relationship, with God and with each other. Connection brings joy.

Hi All!

Facebook has changed it's restrictions on public pages and we are now only allowed to share two links a month. Up until now, we have always shared our weekly zoom link so people can join us online for Sunday Worship. We also have shared our weekly service as they are posted to our YouTube channel. We will no longer be able to do this from our page.

Alarming fear, bitter betrayal, and tension-laden uncertainty fill the room. In the midst of this unsettling moment, the Gospel of John records Jesus’ “famous last words.” Central among these was the commandment to love one another. How do we survive, or even thrive, in times like these? We put love into action, replacing “othering” with “neighboring.”

It had been three years of watching the actions of Jesus–his teaching, his healing, his feeding, his redeeming love. But the disciples still can’t seem to understand. “Show us God,” they say. So Jesus tries to help them understand that whenever they have witnessed his works, they have seen God. Then he offers a shocking statement of trust in those who will carry on after he is gone: they will do works like these and even greater. Anyone who asks for assistance to carry out love-in-action in the name of Jesus, will be his Body, his Love, multiplied many times over throughout the world. Jesus trusts us to do this work.

Grace has never worked on a merit system. In the wilderness, God rained down bread each morning — not because Israel had earned it, but because they were hungry and God was faithful, giving just enough for the day and no more. Centuries later, Jesus told of a landowner who paid the workers hired at sunset the same wage as those who had labored since dawn, unsettling everyone's sense of fairness in the process. Both stories ask the same quiet question: can we receive God's generosity without needing to deserve it first? Whether it's manna on the ground or a denarius in the hand, the gift is never about what we've earned — it's about a giver who delights to provide.

Concluding our series on leadership, this Sunday's worship focuses on the transformative power of leading with grace and the ongoing work of reconciliation. We will explore how true grace isn't about avoiding conflict or being overly permissive, but rather acting as a conduit for God's abundant forgiveness while maintaining healthy boundaries. Through communal reflection, and rituals of reconciliation, the service will provide a safe space to lament our hurts, extend forgiveness, and discern our next right steps together.
