OFFICIAL NOTICE OF TRANSITION
District Missionary Shirley Mathis
September 19, 1954 - August 28, 2025
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
With deep reverence and gratitude, Bishop Linwood E. Dillard, Prelate and General Board Member, and Supervisor Patricia L. Merriweather, together with the Tennessee Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, COGIC, announce the triumphant transition of our beloved District Missionary Shirley Mathis into the eternal presence of the Lord.
A devoted woman of God, District Missionary Mathis faithfully served as President of the Missionary Circle at Citadel of Deliverance COGIC, District Missionary of the Headquarters District, and as Administrative Facilitator of Licensing and Credentialing in the TN Metropolitan Jurisdiction Department of Women. Her dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the lives of many. Her wisdom, compassion, and steadfast faith will continue to inspire generations to come.
As we honor her promotion to glory, we extend heartfelt prayers to her husband Pastor Michael Mathis, her devoted daughters, Yolanda Harris and Vashti Mathis, her family, and the Citadel of Deliverance and families during this time of bereavement.
Even through seasons of illness, District Missionary Mathis stood as a shining example of strength and perseverance as a soldier in the Lord’s army. She was a fervent intercessor, a faithful encourager, and a devoted servant of God’s Kingdom and His church. Her presence will be deeply missed.
During this time of transition, the family is requesting privacy and your continued prayers. Celebration of Life arrangements will be shared soon.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” – Psalm 116:15
