Yesterday, I had the joy of sitting down with our confirmation students as we talked about God, grace, and what it means to claim and affirm our faith. It was a beautiful reminder that God is always at work, calling us deeper into love, purpose, and discipleship.

This Sunday, we will celebrate these amazing boys as they publicly affirm their faith and all the different ways they respond to God’s embracing grace. What a gift it is to witness the Spirit moving in their lives!

We’re also excited to welcome some extra musician friends who will help lead us in worship. It promises to be a joyful morning filled with celebration, music, and gratitude for all that God is doing among us.

Come celebrate with us! It’s going to be a high and holy time of worship. Praise be to God!

We have an exciting season coming up at Mason City UMC!

Tomorrow we celebrate Pentecost Sunday — the day the Spirit moved like wind and fire, filling ordinary people with boldness, hope, and holy possibility! Come worship with us as we proclaim a word titled: “Like Fire Shut Up in My Bones!” There is still power in the Spirit of God to awaken, renew, and send us forth in love!

Then on May 31st, we will celebrate Confirmation Sunday as our confirmands publicly profess their faith and take their next steps in the journey of discipleship. What joy it has been to watch these young people growing in grace, asking deep questions, and discovering the love of God for themselves!

And throughout the month of June, we begin a brand new sermon series: “Unbounded Grace: Methodism and Wesley Through a Q***r Perspective.” Together we will explore the radical grace of God through the Wesleyan tradition — looking at open tables, doing no harm, doing good, and staying in love with God. We believe the love of God is bigger than fear, wider than exclusion, and still transforming hearts and lives today.

There is a place for you here.
Questions and all.
Doubts and all.
Joy and all.

Come and worship with us at 10:30 am. We would love to welcome you! am!

Have a safe and happy Memoria Day! Please remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice!

A Pastor’s Note:
Sunday we gathered around Christ’s open table for communion (I was preparing for Ghana on the first Sunday), and I tell you…what a beautiful reminder of God’s grace and love poured out for ALL people. The Holy Spirit was felt, hearts were warmed, and once again we were reminded that there is space for us at the table of Christ.

What made the moment even more moving was having our confirmation students help serve communion alongside me. What joy it is to watch them step into the life of the church and help extend the invitation of Christ: “Come to the table.”

As I preached this week from Acts 2, I kept reflecting on the beauty of the early church — a people who broke bread together, shared life together, and made sure nobody was left without belonging. That is still the call of the church today: to open the table wide, to make room, and to embody the radical love of Jesus in our everyday lives.

And a special note: the cloth on the communion table was made in Ghana using Adinkra symbols meaning “Except God” and “Strength.” What power. What beauty. What a reminder that it is the Spirit of God that holds us together across cultures, stories, and experiences.

There is room at the table.
There is grace at the table.
There is love at the table.

And thanks be to God, Christ keeps making room.

The good news is that Christ does not wait for you to have it all together to show up.

Right in the middle of confusion.
Right in the middle of heartbreak.
Right in the middle of “we had hoped…”

Christ comes close—and leads us deeper into grace.

When showing up to support one of our church fam youth in his high school play turns into sheltering together in a locker room because of a tornado warning… you take a selfie. 🌪️📸

Honestly? Still such a joy. Grateful for the chance to show up, stay safe, and cheer on an incredible group of students in their production of The Wax Museum!

Thanks be to God for a community that shows up in those small moments, sharing in joy together!

He is risen. He is risen indeed!
The tomb was empty—He is alive!
And somehow, so are we.
He is risen… and so may we be.
Love has overcome hate.
Life has overcome death.
Hallelujah!
