John Evangelical Lutheran Church was the first Lutheran church in the area. The first sanctuary was a wooden structure made to hold the 72 founding members. The brick and stucco sanctuary they built still stands today. This house of the Lord served the community for 175 years, ministering to tens of thousands and performing generations of baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals. The last worship service under LCMS was held January 2nd, 2022. The service was led by Pastor Willard Meyer.
