E-3 believes that education leads to a feeling of empowerment, which leads to either a better qualified worker for better job access or a person confident to start his or her own business and in turn employ others. E-3 feels it is much better to develop income generation within the community which leads to jobs rather than importing from the west things like food and clothes that only address short term issues but in the long run do more damage than good.

It's been a while since we have updated or posted on the E3 page. Over the last couple years there has been progress and setbacks but the work still continues. Hopefully, we will be posting more in the future and keeping you, our supporters up to date. In that vein, here is a video we took to give you a look at some of the changes and developments at our site in Gusu.

We travel to Gusu to bring you on a tour of what's happening at the Gusu E3 site. You can see more about E3 at e3worldwide.org.

In making sure that people in Msakambewa have access to better and improved seeds. E3 has partnered with Tipindule seed company that helps farmers in rural communities to get good seeds with high yield so that they can grow and have more yield at the end of growing season.
Today we have distributed 20kgs of Tikolore soybeans seed to 75 farmers from 5 clusters across Msakambewa.

This project will help them to grow improved seeds that will give them more yield per acre after harvest. This will improve their household financially. They will be able to send their children to school, buy food for the family and get the necessities for the family.

The company will also buy the produce from the farmers at a good price once they harvest next year.

In November 2019 we introduced a new pig breed at our farm called Trista. The 2 main reasons were to, firstly, to introduce it to the community since, by then and even now, many people prefer raising local breed which is not good for commercial. It doesn't grow fast and its value on the market is less than the other breeds. So, introducing the trista breed was to make people raise the trista and profit from it as it grows fast and has so many qualities that increases its value on the market. They also multiply fast. We made our farm to be a demonstration to the people on how to raise them.

Another reason was that, we realised that we needed something that would help us generate more income that could be used for small projects of the ministry like salaries to our staff and property management at our Gusu campus. So, piggery was the best that showed a great potential to give us more income in short period.

We started with 5 pigs, 4 sows and 1 boar and in a space of 18 months, we had 90 pigs. Though the target was 200, and it was possible. Unfortunately, they were all attacked by swine flu and some died while pregnant. We could have gotten a minimum of 80 piglets out of those that died while pregnant. It was very bad. We are still traumatized till now.

But we didn't give up, we started again and now we are doing well. We had to change some approaches like selling piglets than fully grown pigs. This is because you avoid such tragedies we faced last when all pigs were attacked and also to reduce the cost of production in terms of feeding and disease control since piglets require less of these than a fully grown pig.

As of now, we are are now paying our staff using the income from the farm in general including crop production. Our goal is being hundred percent independent from the local incomes for the other projects.

FYI : To anyone who wants to start pig farming in Malawi, visit our farm in Dowa, gusu village and buy our breed. As of now, we have two breeds, Tristas and Camborough.

Some exciting videos of how happy the Thedze people are especially women who are entitled to always fetch water for everyday use in their various homes. Now, there's no need to worry to how and where they will be getting water since the source is now at their doorsteps.

Greetings!

We are excited to have finished installing yet another tap water system in Thedze village.

Thedze village is one of the villages that we have helped a lot in borehole maintenances since 2013. It has 6 boreholes that not all these were working at the same time. Before we came with the tap water, only 4 were working.

Thedze has a population of 2,100 people and including a primary school with 820 students who also come from other nearby villages. It has a trading centre which attracts people from different locations to come and do businesses at this trading centre. Due to this number of people that live and come in this community for different purposes, the boreholes were not enough to supply water to everyone. Once one borehole is or more are broken, it affected the community badly.

E3 Worldwide assed the community and found the need for tap water. Tap water will help the community is a way that:
1. Tap water multiplies a single borehole or source of water into more sources.
2. Tap water saves the time for a person that he/she spends to get water as at the boreholes there are queues of buckets and people waiting to get water one after another. With tap water, only 1 minute is enough to fill a 40 litre bucket.
3. Tap water takes water from the main source close to people hence reducing distance.
4. Tap water gives chances to people to participate in home gardening because of the closeness to the source of water for irrigation during the dry season.

These are just a few of many benefits the community will get from the tap water. We have used an existing borehole and multiplied it into 11 water points. Since we finished, they have been having water whole day even during the night. The 10,000 litre tanks can be filled twice per day.

We are encouraging the community to use the water for the transformation of the community such as encouraging people to do home gardens.

We thank everyone who took part in this amazing gift to Thedze people. God is great.

Some videos of how happy and supportive the community was as we were finalizing zingani tap water project.
Women were excited as this is benefiting them more than anyone in the community. It's life made easy to them. No long distance, time-saving, easy to access the water.

On 27th, last month, we posted about a tap water project being installed in zingani village. We are excited to let you know that zingani now has tap water. They only depended on two boreholes of which one was far from the village and almost the 1003 population depended on the other closer borehole. But now the village now has 9 water points. Very close to their homes. Accessible any time of the day. And time saving since they will not be any queues on water points like before.

Zingani will never be the same again. We will hand over the project to the community later to take full responsibility in terms of minor maintenances and care.

It is a desire and a goal of the ministry to make the whole of Msakambewa have access to tap water which is safe and clean.

In 2017, we started a tuition fee sponsorship project. We were paying tuition to secondary school students from Gusu and surrounding areas. These are students whose parents could not afford to pay for their studies.
Last year, 5 (three girls and 2 boys) sat for Malawi School Certificate Examinations. Only three have passed the exams (2 boys and a girl).

We are still waiting for their total score. The better the score, the higher the chance one has to go to college or university.

We are very proud of them and we will continue supporting them until they get their tertiary education done.

It's 2022. Happy new year.

We are excited that we have started this year so high that we are continuing to install tap water systems. This month we are at Zingani, a village of 1003 people who only depended on two boreholes of which only one was accessible to everyone. The other borehole is more than a kilometer away from the village.

We are proud to say that the project is in progress and the village will have tap water close to their door steps by the first week of February. We will install 9 taps of which depending on availability of water on the well, we will add more taps.

Zingani is so excited that they are fully supportive in participation until the project is done.
