She will tell stories of how God's work is being done through organizations in communities in over 90 countries. Campers will have the opportunity to see the work of the church on a global scale and learn about ways to get involved with mission work.

What a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life and enjoy the out-of-doors! Spend a weekend with God and friends (both old and new) and go home feeling refreshed and relaxed. This is a great opportunity for you to come and experience camp, whether you have grown up here or are a first-time camper. It's also a great chance for younger children to see what camp is like. And, if you've ever been a counselor, now it's your turn to just "be a camper”!!!! Hope to see you soon!!

If Not Now, When? If Not You, Who?
Results Inspire Generosity
Reflection by Rev. Allen Harris

This past summer, for the first time since I arrived as your Regional Minister, I made a point of attending every single camp, conference, and retreat that happened at Camp Christian, including those of the Heartland Conference United Church of Christ. I will complete that goal in a couple of weeks when I attend the Disciples Fellowship Retreat over the Labor Day weekend. I did this, even though it meant I couldn't be in our local congregations quite as much as I have been in the past, for two reasons. First, I wanted to witness and celebrate the wonderful ministry being done by our dedicated and gifted volunteers and staff as they offer the highest quality faith formation for children, youth, young adults, and adults who attend our programs. Second, I wanted to be available to share what is happening with our “If Not Now, When? If Not You, Who?” campaign and to answer questions and address concerns about it.

What I received was more gratifying than I could have ever imagined! The excitement around the new pool, pool house, and picnic pavilion was positively palpable, even electric! Every week, there was not only enormous energy buzzing around these signature improvements to our single greatest physical asset, Camp Christian, but a genuine desire to tell friends, family, and neighbors about it. I also shared how our facilities would become more accessible to more and more of God's beloved children. Almost every single week there was someone present who would significantly benefit from wider and smoother paths with more lighting at nighttime, a handicap parking pad, or even just a manageable grade to get across the two bridges over Lake Snoopy!

And while the additional staffing for the Regional Church Office wasn't quite as glamorous to the campers as a pool or accessibility improvements, I was aware that the mere fact that I could take the time to be fully present at camp this summer, and even be spiritually fed myself, where I had to strain to do so in previous summers illustrated how much expanded staffing is already allowing me to be more present for the important aspects of Regional Ministry.

And so, I returned home and in discussion with my husband, we decided to increase our monthly recurring pledge to the "If Not Now, When? If Not You, Who?” campaign. The results we are already experiencing, and the excitement around the construction of what will become the centerpiece of the Ohio Regional Ministry Center at Camp Christian, inspired even more generosity in my heart and soul. I hope when you come to Camp Christian for our Regional Assembly October 10 – or for one of the *many* retreats, trainings, meetings, or reunions being planned in the coming months – you will be inspired to give more as well.

Dr. Williams is a proud native of Cleveland, Ohio, whose prophetic voice proclaims God's love, grace, and reconciliation for all humanity. She embodies this message through her life's work as a pastoral pioneer, mentor, spiritual administrator, and intentional leader.

A graduate of the Cleveland School of the Performing Arts with a concentration on Vocal Music and Theory, Dr. Williams earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins, Texas, a Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

Ordained at Southport Christian Church in Indianapolis, Dr. Williams currently serves as the Regional Minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indiana, where she made history as the first woman to hold this position.

As we posted about recently, the storms, flooding, and other natural disasters have led to a pressing need for Church World Service (CWS) kits. Especially Cleanup Buckets and Hygiene Kits.

Please read this message from Disaster Response Coordinator, Kevin Gehres:

“Our Disaster Response partnership of the Heartland Conference UCC, and the Ohio Region DOC is facing a critical need from the recent storms across the I-70 beltway.

The resulting flooding has depleted our Camp Christian CWS Depot of all of our cleanup buckets (152), as well as distributing 575 personal hygiene kits and period packs.

Should your hearts be touched to assist in replenishing our buckets and kits, the information can be found at cwskits.org.

AS A REMINDER: The UCC Global HOPE Team offers $250 matching grants to churches or church-related organizations (UCC and Disciples) to assemble the various kits, including Clean Up Buckets. Details at https://app.ui3.smarterselect.com/programs/64870-United-Church-Of-Christ?from=v1

2027 Summer Camp Program & Schedule Announced!

At their August meeting the Camp Christian Committee finalized the 2027 Summer Camp Program and Schedule for Camp Christian and the Christian Church in Ohio. The schedule follows the same pattern as this past summer and should be familiar to those who attended one of our 2026 camps, conferences, or retreats. We will once again welcome several of the Heartland Conference UCC camps and conferences to share our beloved Camp Christian.

We invite you to share this schedule widely and plan now to attend or invite a family member, neighbor, or friend to attend one of these wonderful faith formation opportunities next summer.

Thank You Camp Christian 2026 Summer Staff!

Once again, we must offer a hearty, "Thank you so much! We could not have done it without you!” to our Summer Camp Staff. They, along with our Regional Church Staff, outdid themselves with providing all our campers and volunteers safe, prepared, and clean facilities as well as tasty, abundant, and nutritious meals, all with a friendly smile and great skill. Under the guidance of Amanda Blaine, Camp Christian Hospitality Manager, and Dave Stonebraker-Martinez, Camp Christian Facilities Manager, our constellation of both resident staff and local staff worked exceptionally hard to ensure all of our summer camps, conferences, and retreats went smoothly and successfully. This staff, working alongside our wonderful Camp Secretary, Sophie Compton, our Directors, Assistant Directors, Counselors, and Counselors-In-Training were able to focus on nurturing our campers in deeper faith formation, building lifelong friendships, and having lots and lots of fun.

If you plan to attend an off-season retreat, reunion, or training during the coming months, you most likely will get the chance to experience the hard work of many of our staffers who will also be helping Camp Christian out throughout the year. Be sure to thank them for their service yourself when you do!
