As a young girl, the first Scripture I memorized was John 15:5. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in Him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Today as I read that verse, I’m reminded the key is STAY CONNECTED. A branch doesn’t receive nourishment from the vine and then go do it’s own thing. It stays joined to the vine to continue to receive the sustenance it needs not only to survive, but to thrive.

But let’s be honest…life gets busy. We become distracted, weary, and spiritually dry.

Sometimes we need to step away from the noise, slow down, open God’s Word, pray, and simply abide.

Maybe it’s time to retreat.

Not to escape life—but to reconnect with the One who gives us life.

Come away. Be still. Stay connected. Let God refresh your soul at Shepherd’s Gate Cottage.

You Never Know What’s Hiding in Plain Sight!

Look closely at this little visitor I found at Shepherd’s Gate Cottage! When this moth isn’t flying, it looks almost like a tiny piece of artwork—orange, black, and creamy white patterns covering its wings. God’s details never cease to amaze me!

Slow down. Look closer. God has placed reminders of His creativity and His truth all around us—even in the most unexpected places.

Lord, You see how easily my desires scatter - how quickly I look for life in what cannot hold it. Re-center me on You. Where I have learned to live on urgency, restore delight. Where I have settled for noise, reintroduce me to Your presence.

There’s something beautiful about finding a quiet place to simply soak in God’s Word.
