We are proud to share that Melissa Gantt, forensic science teacher at Martinsburg High School, has been named the 2026 West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Teacher of the Year for the 9โ12 grade category! ๐ฑ๐
Her dedication to environmental education and student leadership truly stands out. Highlights of her work include:
๐ฟ Leading students in the NASA-funded Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) citizen science project
๐ฆ Establishing a Monarch Waystation and pollinator garden through the Monarch Alliance Grant
โป๏ธ Expanding recycling efforts and promoting zero-waste habits across the school
In recognition of her efforts, the WVDEP awarded her $500 personally, along with a $1,000 STEM award for MaHS to support continued innovation in the classroom.
This recognition highlights her work with students and her focus on environmental education. Way to go, Ms. Gantt! ๐๐
