We are asking for the community's help. With gas prices skyrocketing this summer it is becoming very costly for our non-profit. We are asking for donations to help cover the costs of mowing this summer. Everything helps! Even just $25 would cover a few hours of mowing.

This time of year can be difficult for our 2 caretakers. Chasing grass had become the norm for the past 7 years. Cutting between rain and waiting on mowers to be fixed. If your looking for something to do this summer that gives back consider joining our Adopt-A-Grave program and pick a spot or 5 to maintain.

This is what can happen when a town sells out to a data center and people stop caring.

A family grave from the civil war era and possibly unmarked graves of indigenous people may be lost to this date center in GA. I can not fathom the despicable people allowing this.

This Muscogee County homeowner also is concerned such a development could disturb her propertyโ€™s dozens of unmarked graves. โ€œI donโ€™t know if these are slaves or Indians,โ€ she said.

Celebration post๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Melissa is also the reason Green Hill offers green burials. She's always working to make the planet greener in her career and volunteer efforts with the cemetery.

๐ŸŒŸ Celebrating Excellence in Environmental Education! ๐ŸŒŸ

We are proud to share that Melissa Gantt, forensic science teacher at Martinsburg High School, has been named the 2026 West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Teacher of the Year for the 9โ€“12 grade category! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ†

Her dedication to environmental education and student leadership truly stands out. Highlights of her work include:

๐ŸŒฟ Leading students in the NASA-funded Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) citizen science project
๐Ÿฆ‹ Establishing a Monarch Waystation and pollinator garden through the Monarch Alliance Grant
โ™ป๏ธ Expanding recycling efforts and promoting zero-waste habits across the school

In recognition of her efforts, the WVDEP awarded her $500 personally, along with a $1,000 STEM award for MaHS to support continued innovation in the classroom.

This recognition highlights her work with students and her focus on environmental education. Way to go, Ms. Gantt! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Tomorrow we are hosting another one of Tava Baird events. She is the only person who has utilized the cemetery and offered to donate 100% of the profits to the cemetery. She has a big heart and if this event interests you I highly recommend attending!

As the weather warms up, please keep our photography policy in mind:

๐Ÿ“ธ Families & Personal Visitors: You are always welcome to take photos to honor your loved ones and capture personal memories.

๐Ÿšซ Professional & "Aesthetic" Shoots: This is a sacred site, not a studio. Using our grounds as a "prop" or backdrop for profit, monetized social media, or commercial promotion is strictly prohibited without written permission

The Rules:
๐Ÿ”น Commercial Use: All filming or photography for profit requires prior written approval and a site fee.

๐Ÿ”น Prohibited: No drones, professional setups, or "staged" shoots without written permission.

๐Ÿ”น Enforcement: Unauthorized commercial use or disrespectful filming will result in a trespass order.

We have no outside funding. Donations are minimal. Seeing this space exploited for someone else's financial gain is a direct hit to the cemetery and our mission. We welcome meaningful events and respectful projectsโ€”please reach out to us directly to discuss approval and fees.

Thank you for helping us preserve this peace.

We want to share a personal update and an important reminder about decorations at the cemetery.

As many of you know, back in December Mr. Russ stepped away for a time due to mental health reasons. Weโ€™re grateful to share that he has stepped back into his role and is ready to tackle the upcoming growing season to continue maintaining the peace and beauty of this sacred space.

In the coming week or two, Mr. Russ and Ms. Gantt will be walking through the cemetery to remove any decorations that are old, tattered, or past their designated holiday period. This includes items left beyond seasonal dates, as outlined in our guidelines.

If you wish to keep any decorations, please take them home before they begin.

Your cooperation honors the memory of your loved ones and helps us care for the grounds with dignity and respect.

Thank you for understanding.

With care,
Donald Russ & Melissa Gantt
Superintendent & Caretaker
