Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu OFFICIAL PAGE, where we post updates to our website, MWHS News, and photos of our global community.

The first serving the Diaspora, Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu resurrected, re-introduced and conducted the first initiations and installations of Yeveh Vodou; including, “Mamissiis” Mami Wata, the ancestral cult of Mama Tchamba, Aholu Sakpata, Adé, Jihossou, Nana Yekpe and the great ancestral cult of Amengansie into mainstream North America. All are critical components of the suppresse

d traditions of enslaved Africans in North America. A strong proponent of religious freedom, cultural and ritual expression, the Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu also petitioned and won in changing the classification of African religions books and literature from “occult” to “African Spirituality, African Culture,” etc., This important change would allow educational institutions to teach ATRs (African Traditional Religions) alongside other mainstream religions at all levels of education. http://mamiwata.com/loc.html

MWHS also resurrected the ancient African prophetess’ “The Sybils” whose incalculable impact on Western religions cannot be denied. http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/mamaissii

In 1999, the MWHS also introduced and popularized the acronym "ATR" (African Traditional Religions) into popular culture, in an attempt to encourage and unify all African Diaspora religions into a cooperative body of mutual interest. An old guestbook of their first ATR (African Spirituality Forum) online forum still remains. http://pub31.bravenet.com/guestbook/2631288586/

The MWHS website http://www.mamiwata.com & http://www.amengansie.com has been cited and recognized with the following awards:
Life in Africa ACE aware for cultural excellence. About: The Best of the Net for cultural excellence

The Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu continues to serve as an advocator for inclusiveness of ATRs into mainstream society, where they can be accessible to all, regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or political affiliation.
