🌟 What If One Day Could Change the Way a Young Person Sees Their Future? 🌟
Growing up in Pittsburg, I remember being told by a high school counselor that college might not be in my future.
Thankfully, I didn’t let someone else’s expectations determine my path.
I went on to earn my degree, build a career in public service, serve my hometown as a Councilmember and Mayor, and today, I have the honor of serving as your Contra Costa County District 5 Supervisor.
That experience is one of the reasons our 2026 District 5 Youth Summit means so much to me.
Not every young person needs to follow the same path. College may be right for some. For others, it may be a trade, apprenticeship, technology, entrepreneurship, public service, the arts, or a career they haven’t even discovered yet.
What every young person deserves is the chance to see what’s possible.
On Saturday, September 19, we’re bringing students in grades 6–12 together at Los Medanos College for a FREE day of inspiring speakers, interactive workshops, college and career exploration, technology and AI, leadership and life skills, music, activities, raffles, giveaways, and more.
My hope is that every student leaves with something they didn’t have when they arrived—a new idea, a new connection, more confidence, or simply the thought:
“Maybe I can do that.”
Parents, grandparents, guardians, mentors and educators: if there is a young person in your life who is still figuring out what comes next, bring them.
They don’t need to arrive with a plan. Maybe they’ll leave with the beginning of one. ❤️
