The Catholic Committee of Appalachia is a faith-based grassroots network of people raising a prophetic voice for Appalachia and her people. Since 1970, the Catholic Committee of Appalachia has existed to serve Appalachia, her poor and the entire web of creation. We are a network of ministers and activists, lay & religious, men & women, young and old, living in hills, hollers, cities and towns, int
erested in and working on local, regional and national grassroots efforts for social, economic and environmental justice in the mountains. Mountaintop removal, labor, private prison development, sustainable lifestyles and communities, poverty, health, clean water, racism, LGBT justice, and climate change are among those which CCA has addressed. The Catholic Committee of Appalachia continues to:
- Publish and distribute our Appalachian Bishops' pastoral messages and our People's Pastoral,
- Promote Catholic social teaching in the region
- Collaborate with Dioceses, local parishes and other organizations to advance social and environmental justice
- Offer spiritual and educational opportunities such as Pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Appalachia, the Cherokee Spirituality Retreat/Seminar, religious education materials on Climate Change and the Religious Leaders Forum on Mountaintop Removal
