Lost First Love

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” — Revelation 2:4

Today we were challenged from Revelation 2:1-7 to examine our hearts and remember the passion, devotion, and love we once had for Christ. It is possible to be busy serving, working, and doing good things, yet drift away from the One who matters most.

Jesus calls us to:
Remember where we have fallen from
Repent of our wandering hearts
Return to our first love

May we never lose the joy of our salvation or the wonder of His amazing grace.

Thank you for worshiping with us today at Broadway Baptist Church. If you missed the service, we invite you to join us next week as we continue studying God’s Word together.

What a wonderful day in the Lord’s house at Broadway Baptist Church!

Today we worshiped together through Revelation 1:9-20 and were reminded of the glorious vision of Jesus Christ that was given to John. No matter what trials we face, Christ is still alive, still in control, and still walking among His churches. What a comfort to know that the One who holds the keys of death and hell is our Savior and King!

Thank you to everyone who joined us today. We pray that God’s Word continues to encourage and strengthen you throughout the week.

“And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last.” — Revelation 1:17

We would love for you to worship with us next Sunday!

GOD'S TIMING IS THE BEST

And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, purge them, and to make them white, even to the time of the end; because it is yet for a time appointed. (Daniel 11:35 NKJ)

Have you ever been impatient waiting for God to do miracles in your life? We pray and wait for things that never seem to happen. This could be a prayer for the salvation of our loved ones who have not believed in and experienced God's touch. This could be a prayer for financial breakthroughs or an equal life partner. It could also be about our dreams and longings that seem to be put by the Lord in our hearts.

While our souls could become frustrated with this waiting period, we must know that God has an appointed time for His will. We can't push Him nor make it happen one minute sooner. Look at the story of Abraham and Sarah. They know that God had promised them a child, but the promise didn't happen fast enough while both of them were getting older. Their frustration made them decide to take Hagar. They thought that Sarah's servant would make God's plan come true. Man's idea is not God's idea.

The problem is that no one can help God along with His plans. Even though Abraham and Sarah's plan worked with Ishmael's birth, Ishmael was not the promised child. Their impatience had a profound impact on the world.

Before we judge them with wrongful accusations, let us take a look at ourselves and think of our responses while waiting on God's timing. Some of us spend our time with busyness so that we do not think of the length of our waiting time anymore. Many of us look for other options "to help the Lord" along even though we know deep down in our hearts that this is just a futile effort. Some even get discouraged and begin to doubt whether God cares or notices the pain in our hearts.

However, we can find the key in Daniel 11:35. It says, "For it is still waiting for the appointed time". Our Lord has an appointed time for everything that happens on this earth, to each of us. We can only see a little bit of how things work, but He makes all things work together because He is God. Our God sees the bigger picture in life. Our role is to trust Him, wait on Him and obey Him. Everything will happen on time in His time. Let Him find us faithfully waiting in our prayer, worship, and declaring the promises of God.

Don't be anxious because the Lord is never too late to help and lift us.
