Let's pray for our young people who are discerning a priestly vocation.

While the global Church continues to face declining numbers of priests in many regions, several American dioceses are quietly experiencing a powerful work of the Holy Spirit — large classes of new priests and growing seminarian ranks.

According to a recent report, three dioceses stand out:

✅ Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina

Ordained a record 10 new priests in 2026 (after 6 in 2025 and 7 in 2024). Vocations Director Fr. John Eckert points to the diocese’s vibrant faith life, strong families, faithful priests, and its own college seminary as key factors. “It’s always the Holy Spirit at work,” he said.

✅ Diocese of Wichita, Kansas

22 ordinations since 2020 and 44 over the past decade. The diocese will start the new academic year with 50 seminarians. Fr. Garett Burns credits a strong culture of Eucharistic adoration (including perpetual adoration), priests who love their vocation, and intentional promotion of vocations in families, schools, and parishes.

✅ Diocese of Arlington, Virginia

7 new priests in 2026 (after 12 in 2025). Vocations Director Fr. Noah Morey highlights consistent bishop involvement, widespread Eucharistic adoration (every parish asked to hold 40 hours annually), St. Andrew dinners, and Quo Vadis camps for young men. “It’s not just one thing — it’s everything,” he said.

Across all three dioceses, leaders emphasize the same truths: holy and joyful priests attract young men, supportive families matter deeply, and above all, it is the Holy Spirit who gives the growth.

As Pope Leo XIV recently reminded vocation directors: God “continues to call and remains faithful to his promises.”

What a powerful reminder that even in challenging times, the Lord is still raising up laborers for His harvest.

"Acheiropoieta" comes from the Greek ἀχειροποίητα, meaning "made without hands." These are sacred images of Jesus or Mary believed to have appeared miraculously, defying scientific explanation and human artistry.

Here are five of the most renowned:

1️⃣The Image of Edessa (Mandylion)

One of the earliest and most venerated in Eastern Christianity. Legend says King Abgar of Edessa received a cloth with Christ's face miraculously imprinted on it during His lifetime. It became the prototype for many icons of the Holy Face.

2️⃣ the Holy Face of Manoppello

Tradition holds that a woman named Veronica wiped the face of Jesus on the way to Calvary, and His image was left on her veil. The image of the Holy Face preserved in Manoppello, Italy, is often associated with this miracle — a transparent veil showing a serene face of Christ.

3️⃣Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexico, 1531)

On the tilma (cloak) of St. Juan Diego, the Virgin Mary left a full-color image that has remained vibrant for nearly 500 years. No brush strokes, no paint — even the stars on her mantle match the exact constellation on December 12, 1531. Millions converted through this powerful sign.

4️⃣ Our Lady of Las Lajas (Colombia, 1754)

In a remote canyon, an image of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus (accompanied by St. Dominic and St. Francis) appeared imprinted directly into the rock.
Geologists have confirmed the colors pe*****te several feet into the stone — not painted on the surface, but part of the rock itself. A breathtaking "twin" to Guadalupe!

5️⃣ The Shroud of Turin (Italy)

The most studied relic in history — a linen cloth bearing the image of a crucified man, believed by many to be Jesus. The image is a photographic negative, formed in a way no medieval artist could replicate, showing wounds consistent with Roman crucifixion. A profound witness to the Passion.
