Since modern academic study of the Bible began, interpreters have had difficulty reconciling Jesus and Paul. It became clear as early as the 18th century that Jesus was a Jewish rabbi promoting fidelity to the Torah and proclaiming the restoration of the Jewish monarchy. Paul, on the other hand, seems to be focused on the significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection, perhaps even downplaying the very “works” Jesus was so concerned about. This classic difficulty plays out in different ways in different theological contexts. In today’s episode of FFOZ Reacts!, Jacob Fronczak watches a video by Kaylah Hodgins, who has found it necessary to abandon Paul altogether in order to continue following Jesus. Do we really have to tear Paul’s epistles out of our Bibles to make it all make sense?
