September 11- A Day of Remembrance and Prayer.
Almighty and merciful God, with sorrow we remember the tragic events that occurred on this day. We entrust to your loving care, those who died in the terrorist attacks. Console their families, friends, and all who mourn. We remember those who courageously responded to aid and comfort the afflicted. May their painful memories be healed and transformed into strong resolution. Bring justice and peace to our violent world. In the face of hatred, may we show love; in times of despair, may we be voices of hope. In times of darkness, let us be sources of light. You may be glorified and Your love be known to others through us.

This weekend we will be given the opportunity to exercise our Christian virtue of charity by welcoming Sister Maria Rukwishuro, SJI to our parish as part of the diocesan mission appeal for the support of the Church's continued effort to lend spiritual, financial, and moral assistance to our brothers in sisters in need throughout the world. The following is a brief description of Sister Maria's community and their work among the people of the African country of Zimbabwe.
The Sisters of the Infant Jesus (Sorores a Jesu Infante-SJI) is a religious congregation of women founded in Gweru, Zimbabwe in 1950 with members making a vowed commitment to love and serve God and His people. They are an order numbering 232 professed members and 21 in their initial formation stages. The sisters work to empower women, children and the vulnerable through education, health care and social work. The community is involved in pastoral ministries, teaching and nursing, as cooks, administrators and also in pastoral projects that address the needs of the poor and vulnerable, especially women and children who have been orphaned or are handicapped. Zimbabwe’s economy has been in serious decline for the past twenty years due to the ruinous authoritarian policies of the former president, Robert Mugabe. Currently most organizations and industries have been forced to close for lack of a stable economy which itself is largely reliant on outside assistance and support. Like other organizations operating in such an environment, the SJI Order struggles to meet its financial obligations due to limited sources of income for the community and its initiatives. We have been asked by our sisters in faith for our prayers and generous financial contributions to continue their worthy efforts among the poor of Zimbabwe. Sister Maria Rukwishuro, SJI will be speaking at all Masses at St. Mark the Evangelist on the weekend of September 12-13.
Contributions for the SJI Mission will be collected throughout the month of September.

Annual Day of Prayer for our Priests. The priests of the diocese attend a retreat together every fall. This fall convocation is an important time away from their parishes to build camaraderie, pray together, engage in continuing formation, and celebrate milestone anniversaries. Let us gather as a Catholic community during this time to pray for our shepherds
St Mark will offer Rosary and Prayer Service at 12PM followed by Adoration until 3:30PM (St Mary Campus) and Rosary and Prayer Service 6PM on Tuesday, Sept. 22. (St Mary Campus) Please Join us. UPDATE... Friday, September 11, JUST two Open Prayer Slots.. 3:30-4:00 and 4:00-4:30... Can you help Pray to End Abortion ??

The 40 Days for Life – Grand Rapids location is stepping out in prayer and embracing “365” … a program of year-round prayer (instead of 2 times a year) in front of Planned Parenthood, the last, freestanding surgical abortion facility in our city. They are looking for churches to commit to one afternoon a month. Can the parishioners of St Mark help? We are looking for people who are able to make a monthly commitment of 30 to 60 minutes one day a month. We have been given the 2nd Friday (1PM-5PM) of every month. Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up.

Labor Day Blessing
Bless, O God, all those who labor. Whether they are compensated by paycheck or pride, let them know their true worth in your eyes. May all workers be gifted with a sense of service to the common good and graced with the satisfaction of a job well done. Thank you for those whose work provides protection, comfort, healing, and relief from suffering and stress. May all of our labors be for your goodness and glory.
Amen
