Prayers for the people of Cuba as they deal with a second day of country-wide power outages. Of special concern are our Presbyterian friends there and the thousands of Cubans who get pure drinking water from water-purification systems that we helped to install following the model of Living Waters for the World. These LWW systems do a good job cleaning up the water, whether it comes from a well, a decrepit municipal system, or another source. But these LWW systems need electricity to run the pumps that move the water, and the ozonators that do the final purification. CPC may be closed, but those who installed the systems at Union de Reyes, CANIP, Gibara, La Playa, Holguin, and other sites live on and will continue to be available to help keep these systems functioning in the years ahead. Among these water heroes are Jerry Goode, Charlie Matthews, Mike Rugge, Rev. Lory Ryan, and Kary LaFors, to name only a few of the many. But these systems require electricity, so we pray for a restoration of the Cuban power grid.
The entire island was initially left without power on Friday when its main power plant failed impacting 10 million people.
