Dear Friends and Family of Faith -
Forty-eight years ago today, January 25, 1978, the Blizzard of ‘78 began.
It covered much of the Midwest and Eastern United States with an average of over twenty inches of snow, forty mile per hour winds, and sub zero temperatures. Today, forty-eight years later to the day, we are experiencing another devastating winter storm that covers most of the United States. Because of the dangerous conditions and the large amount of snowfall, we have decided to close NCC church today. Stay safe.
Let’s worship the Lord together anyway…on line.
In the book of Job: 36:7, we read, “For to the snow He says, 'Fall on the earth,' likewise to the downpour, His mighty downpour."
This verse in Job reminds us that whatever our feeling is about snow, we know that God creates it and sends it.
Today, we can discover many spiritual lessons through the snow.
Snowfall is just one display of God’s majestic power, which is seen in His Creation - including all of the earth’s seasons, natural laws, systems, and perfect order. God’s power is displayed through snow and nature.
Besides that, a fresh blanket of snow, to most people, is a picturesque scene of peace and beauty covering the earth. Thousands of artists have painted snow-covered scenic landscapes. Everyone, at one time or another, has exclaimed - Snow is really pretty! God’s beauty is displayed in snow.
Also, snow, and more specifically, individual snowflakes, are used to illustrate that God makes each of us to be different, special, and unique. Snowflakes are all individually different. Likewise, God makes no two people to be exactly the same. By God’s design, we are all created with individual characteristics and personalities. Also, we must come to Jesus and accept Him into our lives, individually. God is personal and one on one with each of us!
Another lesson we learn from The Bible, when it comes to snow, is that God uses snow to describe our lives when we are cleansed and forgiven of our sins. In Isaiah we read - “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow…”
Isaiah 1:18a. (NKJV)
Also, David writes in the Psalms, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
Psalms 51:7 (NKJV)
Like we said at Upward yesterday, Let’s look at the snow today as a reminder to us, to ask God to forgive us of all our sins and to cleanse us as white as snow.
The old Hymn says it like this:
Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole,
I want Thee forever to live in my soul;
Break down every idol, cast out every foe;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow;
Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
Lord Jesus, let nothing unholy remain,
Apply Thine own blood and extract every stain;
To get this blest cleansing I all things forego;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Lord Jesus, look down from Thy throne in the skies,
And help me to make a complete sacrifice;
I give up myself and whatever I know;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Lord Jesus, for this I most humbly entreat;
I wait, blessed Lord, at Thy crucified feet;
By faith, for my cleansing I see Thy blood flow;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Lord Jesus, Thou seest I patiently wait;
Come now, and within me a new heart create;
To those who have sought Thee Thou never saidst, No;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Whiter than snow; yes whiter than snow. Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. God wants to forgive us and cleanse us of all our sins! Jesus has made the way for that to happen through His blood.
Our prayers this Sunday morning are for everyone to be healed from their illnesses, diseases, and injuries. For everyone to be safe and stay warm in this winter storm. Most of all, we pray that everyone will be forgiven of their sins today, be right with God and be made as white and pure…as the New driven snow!
Today, let Jesus come in to your heart and cleanse you of all your sins.
I John 1:9 says - “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” AMEN!
Love to everyone this Sunday morning. I miss you all soooo much!
