Markham Lutheran Church Sunday School Program

Markham Lutheran Church Sunday School Program The purpose of this page is to enhance communication between the Sunday School Superintendent/staff, students and parents. We are loved by God.

The Sunday School program at Markham Lutheran Church has the mission to teach the Gospel of Christ to the children. That is the true message. We gather every Sunday to sing his praises. Prayer and worship are essential to the program. We also offer two classes, each designed to teach the children about the importance of the day's message. We would love for you to join us!

We hope to see you soon, either in person or on Facebook Live, 10:15 a.m.

If you're able to attend in person, remember the Easter breakfast at 9 a.m.

Matthew 28:1-10: After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow. 4 For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.” 8 So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers and sisters to go to Galilee; there they will see me.

On this 10th Day of Christmas we are anticipating 12th Night and then the coming of the Magi on January 6th. We'll celebrate the Sunday of the Epiphany tomorrow, the 11 Day of Christmas.

Every day the news seems to get more heartbreaking. Yet, we lift up our hearts when we remember the words of Isaiah 9:2-7: "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined." Tomorrow our Old Testament reading, Isaiah 60:1–6, gives us more reason to hope: "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Lift up your eyes all around, and see; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip. Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and exult, because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you...."

See you at 9 a.m. in person for Sunday School and at 10:15 a.m. in person and on Facebook Live for Worship in Word and Sacrament.

The Church has been singing the "O" Antiphons since at least the eighth century. They are the antiphons that accompany the Magnificat canticle of Evening Prayer from December 17-23. They use ancient biblical imagery of the Messiah drawn from the Old Testament, especially the Book of Isaiah, to proclaim the coming Christ as the fulfillment of the hopes of God's people of every age. Their repeated use of the imperative "Come!" embodies the longing of all for the Messiah.
