I Kings Chapter 19
Topic of today's message was how to structure a prayer to God. There are five elements to prayer.
1) Thanksgiving -- Start each prayer with thanks directed toward God. What are you thankful for?
2) Praise -- Give praise and glory to God.
3) Petition -- Ask for God's help for you. Strength, compassion, etc.
4) Intercession -- Help for others.
5) Listen -- Take time to listen to God. Often God's still small voice, and even his silence, can speak volumes.

We must also remember what prayer is not. It is not an excuse to gossip. It's not necessary to openly say what someone's needs are, especially if the needs should be kept private.

There is one time when God doesn't want us to pray. When we already know what God expects of us, there's no need to delay action with prayer. Just do what you know God expects.
