Sunday Recap ✝️
This Sunday we were excited to welcome Pastor Brian and his family back from their much-deserved vacation!
We spent our time in Matthew 5:1–12, focusing on the first Beatitude: “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” The Beatitudes are some of the most familiar words of Jesus, yet they continue to challenge and encourage us every time we read them.
Pastor Brian shared that Jewish theologian David Flusser believed Jesus gave the Beatitudes as a list of expectations for what it looks like to be one of His faithful followers.
We also learned that while “blessed” is often translated as “happy,” a deeper understanding can be found in Isaiah 66:2, where it carries the translation that “God’s favor rests on”.
One particularly interesting insight was how the phrase “poor in spirit” evolved over time. By the first century, rabbis were using it to describe those whose lives were in chaos—people who recognized their need for God and could not rely on themselves.
As we left Sunday, we were challenged with an important question:
Are you willing to let go of the things you’re holding onto in order to receive God’s gift?

Kids Camp was a tremendous blessing this year with 160 attendees, and several children made decisions to trust Christ as their Savior!
