Tomorrow, we honor the birth and brilliance of Soror Zora Neale Hurston πβ¨
Author, anthropologist, filmmaker, and proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (1922), Hurston was a fearless storyteller whose voice helped define the Harlem Renaissance. A master of βfolk fiction,β she penned more than 50 short stories, plays, and essays, along with four groundbreaking novels that illuminated Black life, love, and resilience in the early 1900s American South.
Through her vivid storytelling, anthropological research, and exploration of hoodoo, Hurston captured the complexity of the African American experience with honesty and audacity. Her work invited both praise and critique, yet she remained unapologetic, challenging the status quo and expanding how Black culture, poverty, and identity were studied, understood, and valued.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated proudly salutes the courage, genius, and trailblaZing legacy of Soror Zora Neale Hurston as we celebrate her life and lasting impact.
βI have the nerve to walk my own way, however hard, in my search for reality, rather than climb upon the rattling wagon of wishful illusions.β
