Lord God, on this Memorial Day, we pause with humble hearts to remember those who laid down their lives in service to our nation. We honor their courage, their sacrifice, and the love that moved them to stand in the gap for others. As Jesus taught us, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” May their example stir us toward gratitude, compassion, and faithful service in our own lives. Lord, we pray for the families who carry the weight of loss every day, not just on this holiday. Surround them with Your comfort. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds. Heal the wounds that time alone cannot touch. We lift up those who continue to serve, at home and around the world. Strengthen them with courage, protect them from harm, and steady their hearts with Your presence. For those who return carrying invisible burdens, bring restoration, hope, and renewed purpose. As a nation, help us to honor the fallen not only with words, but with lives that pursue justice, mercy, and unity. Teach us to be peacemakers in a world that longs for peace. Shape our hearts to reflect the sacrificial love of Christ, who gave Himself for all. May this day not only remind us of the cost of freedom, but also turn our eyes to You, the One who offers true and everlasting freedom. In the name of Jesus, our Prince of Peace, we pray. Amen.
