In the 1920's Otto and Ora Grant decided that Fergestown needed a Sunday School, so they gained permission from the local school of directors and started one in the Ferges School House. Later, the Reverend Thomas Dulaney, pastor of the North Herrin Free Methodist Church, preached at the school house and held nightly prayer meetings in the people's front yards in the Jeffery mining camp area. He br

ought Evangelist Elmer McKay to hold a tent meeting near the current location of the church, which began May 14 and ran until June 3, 1928. This revival was deemed a success and the Ferges Free Methodist Church was born. After a prayer meeting led by William Nevill on August 28, 1928, Rev. Dulaney presided over the initial business meeting at the School House electing Lola McNeill, Ora Grant and Clay Sanders as stewards and Harry McNeill and Harry Springs as trustees. The Conference Superintendent at that time was E.P. It is our prayer that God will see fit to continue His blessings for years to come as we build His kingdom by reaching our community. To God be the glory, great things He continues to do!
