Celebrate Recovery at East Marion Community Church

Celebrate Recovery at East Marion Community Church Providing thorough application of scripture to one's life, in addition to biblical accountability to help heal from life's hurts, habits & hangups.

Celebrate Recovery at East Marion Baptist Church is not a recovery group that deals with discipleship; we are a discipleship group that deals with recovery. We begin with discipleship because the root cause of all “hurts, habits, and hang-ups" is sin. This includes our sins against God, our sins against ourselves, our sins against others and the sins of others against us. The path of discipleship

is how we recover. The purpose of Celebrate Recovery at East Marion Baptist Church is to fellowship and celebrate God's healing power in our lives through the 8 recovery principles found in the Beatitudes (Mathew 5:1-12) and in the 12 steps to recovery. This experience allows us to "be changed." We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God's healing grace to solve life problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy, and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program, we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power - Jesus Christ.

Recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. Tonight at Celebrate Recovery, we’re talking about what it means to define your sobriety and recovery with honesty, accountability, and surrender. Recovery is more than just stopping a behavior—it’s allowing God to transform our hearts, minds, and lives one day at a time.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

Join us as we learn how clear definitions, healthy boundaries, and faith-filled support help strengthen lasting recovery. No matter where you are in your journey, there is hope, healing, and freedom in Jesus.

Step 1: The Beginning of Freedom

“We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable.”

There is something powerful about finally being honest. Not just with others—but with ourselves. Step 1 isn’t about defeat… it’s about surrender. It’s about laying down the exhausting effort to control everything and admitting that what we’ve been doing isn’t working.

Powerlessness doesn’t mean weakness—it means we’re ready for change. It opens the door for God to step in and do what we cannot do on our own.

“For I know that nothing good dwells in me… for I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.” – Romans 7:18

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or worn out from trying to “fix it” yourself—you’re not alone. Step 1 reminds us that freedom starts right here, in honesty and surrender.

Recovery begins when we stop fighting and start trusting. 💙

Powerlessness isn’t weakness—it’s honesty.

Tonight we’re diving into Step 1: admitting that we are powerless over our hurts, habits, and hang-ups—that our lives have become unmanageable.

It’s not about giving up… it’s about letting go of the illusion of control and making room for God to step in. Real change begins when we stop fighting in our own strength and start surrendering to His.

📖 “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature…” (Romans 7:18)

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or tired of doing things your way—this is your invitation to something new. You don’t have to carry it alone anymore.

Join us tonight as we take the first step toward freedom. 💛
