“The perfect church service, would be one we were almost unaware of. Our attention would have been on God.” – C.S. Lewis
Understand that while you do show up, sit in a seat, hear the sermon, and sing and listen to the songs, while there may be coffee and donuts available for you, and while you may be heartily greeted at the door… and we WILL be happy to see you…
Church… it isn’t exactly about us.
See…
If you come in, ready to leave as soon as you get there, you’ve missed it.
If you come in, wishing they’d have done newer songs, you’ve missed it.
If you come in, wishing they’d have done older songs, instead of new ones, you’ve missed it.
If you come in complaining about the temperature, or the seats, or the preaching taking too long, or who was there today, or who was missing… you’ve missed it.
If you come in, upset about what the pastor is wearing, or because the announcements took too long, or that kid in the front row was too loud… you’ve missed it.
Because the focus isn’t you, and it isn’t me.
The focus is HIM. The focus is hearing from Him. The focus is making His name great. The focus is singing whatever song that’s next from the bottom of your heart to a God who is worthy of every ounce of your worship, love, and adoration.
We get caught up in the actual service. You know what I mean… The order of it. The length of it. The content of it… and perhaps we misplace the focus of it.
We should be unaware of all of those things, friends, because we haven’t, for the time allotted, taken our eyes off Him.
Make it about Him tomorrow, wherever it is you are going to worship! And if you need a place to make Him the focus… come see us at Marion First Church of God!
Services begin at 11AM!
“Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy and lovingkindness are everlasting, His faithfulness [endures] to all generations.”
—Psalms 100:4-5 AMP
