David did not defeat every giant by himself. When he grew weary, others stepped in to help. Abishai rescued him. Later, other warriors defeated the remaining giants.

This is a picture of the church. God never intended believers to carry every burden alone.

Sometimes we are strong enough to help others. Sometimes we are the ones who need help.

Pride often tells us to keep our struggles hidden. But healing frequently comes through godly relationships.

Encouragement, accountability, prayer, and friendship are gifts God gives through His people.

When David was down, others fought beside him. The same is true for us today. The church is not simply a place we attend; it is a family that helps us stand when we are weak.

Some battles are won because someone else prayed, encouraged, or supported us at just the right moment.

One of the smooth stones every believer needs is daily Bible study. God’s Word has a remarkable way of speaking directly into our circumstances.

Often we bring a burden to God in prayer and then discover that very issue addressed in our Bible reading.

A verse we have read many times suddenly becomes personal and powerful.

God uses His Word to correct, encourage, guide, and protect His people.

When temptation comes, Scripture provides wisdom. When fear comes, Scripture provides comfort. When confusion comes, Scripture provides direction.

The enemy wants believers disconnected from God’s Word because he knows its power.

But a heart filled with Scripture is difficult to deceive and easier to strengthen.

Prayer is us talking to God. Scripture is God talking to us.

When David approached Goliath, he carried five smooth stones. He was prepared not only for the giant in front of him but for whatever might come next.

Preparation is often overlooked in the Christian life. We tend to pray after the crisis begins rather than before it arrives.

Yet David teaches us the value of readiness. Spiritual disciplines are not emergency tools; they are daily habits.
Prayer, Bible reading, worship, and obedience may seem ordinary, but they become powerful weapons when trouble comes.

A soldier does not wait until the battle starts to learn how to use his equipment.

Likewise, believers should not wait for temptation, sickness, or hardship before seeking God.

The time to fill your pouch is before you need the stones.

David had already defeated Goliath. The giant was gone. The victory was celebrated. Yet thirty years later another giant appeared. Ishbi-Benob, one of Goliath’s relatives, came looking for David when he was exhausted.

Many believers think that once they overcome a major struggle, the battle is finished. The truth is that spiritual warfare often comes in waves. The enemy rarely attacks only once. He waits for moments of weakness, fatigue, discouragement, or overconfidence.

David’s story reminds us that yesterday’s victory does not remove today’s need for vigilance.

We cannot live off old prayers, old Bible studies, or old testimonies.

Every day requires fresh dependence on God.

The giant you defeated last year may be gone, but another challenge may already be approaching.

Stay ready. Keep your spiritual stones close at hand.

Our children joined their families in the main sanctuary for worship this past Sunday. 💙

To help them follow along and feel included, worship kits were created with their very own sermon note sheets. What a sweet reminder that worship is for every age, and little hearts are always listening, learning, and growing.

We love seeing our Milford kids worship alongside the church family!

Most believers know the story of David and Goliath.
What many forget is that Goliath had brothers.

David won a great victory in the Valley of Elah, but the attacks did not end there. Decades later, other giants emerged, determined to finish what Goliath could not.

The same is true in our spiritual lives.
We overcome one temptation, and another appears. We survive one crisis, and another challenge comes. We win one battle, and another giant steps onto the battlefield.

The message of these devotions is simple:
Keep your stones ready.

Through spiritual discipline, supportive Christian friendships, and a surrendered walk with Jesus, God provides everything we need to face the battles ahead.

“The Brothers Don’t Come While You Are Fighting. They Come After You Have Put Down Your Stones.”
