One of the unforgettable experiences at camp this year was when the young women from the Cherokee and Woodstock Wards explored a cave deep beneath the earth.
At one point, the guide had everyone sit on a ledge and carefully explained where the edge was and how far back they needed to stay to remain safe. Then, all the lights were turned off. In the complete darkness, no one could see the ledge. They couldn't see the danger. The only thing keeping them safe was trusting the counsel they had been given before the lights went out.
What a powerful reminder of how Heavenly Father guides us. We don't always see every danger ahead or understand why we're asked to follow certain commandments and counsel. But when life feels dark or uncertain, the guidance we've received from the Savior, the scriptures, prophets, parents, and leaders can help keep us safely on the path.
Sometimes faith means trusting the light we were given before the darkness came.
