Sunday will be a historic and holy day as we gather to celebrate the ordination of Taylor Bacon. Never before has our church had the privilege of hosting an ordination service. On Sunday we come together to worship, give thanks, and rejoice as we acknowledge God’s calling on Taylor’s life. When we ordain someone we are not only celebrating an individual, but the Church is declaring that God has called and equipped that person for the work of ministry. During the ordination service we will pray for Taylor, lay our hands upon him as a sign of support, and acknowledge God’s work in and through Taylor’s life. Please join us this Sunday for an unforgettable service as we commemorate this monumental occasion in our church’s history. For Methodists, ordination is important not only because of its biblical roots, but also because of the rich history behind the tradition. Since the beginning of the Church, leaders have been sent out into mission by way of prayer and the laying on of hands to preach the Gospel, teach discipleship, and shepherd the Church. Methodists view ordination as a covenant between the person, the Church, and God. Ordination requires vows to a life of servanthood, preaching the word, ministry to others, and a holy life. This service will remind us as a congregation that God continues to call individuals to ministry today and that his mission is carried on throughout the generations. We look forward to seeing you Sunday as we celebrate the Lord’s faithfulness in establishing Taylor’s calling and create another chapter in our church family’s story.
