365 Days Later, But Today is 10/7/23

Nothing sweet will touch my lips
Nothing joyous will be accepted by my senses
Nothing trivial will occupy my thoughts
Because 365 days later
It’s still 10/7/23

You are still gone
You are still held captive
You are still full of hate
You still chant in the streets
“From the river to the sea”
That my people cannot be free
Yes, it’s 365 days later
But it’s still 10/7/23

Here in the home of the brave
And the land of the free
My child is afraid to wear a Star
My child has lost friends
And been shunned and hated
For the blood in her veins
It’s 1938
And much of the world is silent
While many others shout
“We are $”
It may be 365 days later
But it’s still 10/7/23

I have a dream
And so did they
With shaved heads
Tattooed arms
And the ashes of loved ones in their nostrils
And on their feet
They came to a forgotten land
They rebuilt, on their dreams
A home

Today we mark the one year remembrance of the October 7th Massacre, Black Saturday. In solidarity with those still held hostage in Gaza, in remembrance of those lost, and in honor of those still fighting terror, my daughter, Tova, and I recorded this rendition of Bring Him Home from Les Mis. Then I listen to myself read the Bible for much of my workday.
Pretty sure The Far Side is key to keeping me going!

This was very cool. I got to interview two gentlemen that love the Lord and breathe music!! Tres Gilbert is best known for his work with Bobby Brown & New Edition and is one of Atlanta’s premier bassists and producers. Mike Burton is an incredible superstar, performing regularly on BET projects, with Patti Labelle, Jill Scott, Usher, and pretty much anyone you can think of that has a top of the line brass section. We talk Jazz, Worship, and why Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” beats out anything Hillsong can dream up when it comes to authentic worship.

M’24 is less than 2 weeks away!
I may be busier than ever, which is really saying something! My one point of sadness is that I don’t get to serve the YMJA this year in any capacity due to my extremely busy schedule. First time being there and not serving The YMJA in some way since 1995.
But I’m so excited for the Pr***en Program! And excited to be in the marketplace sharing about They Called Him Yeshua and The Smiling Sheep! Hope to see you there!
