October is the Month of the Holy Rosary! Checkout how the feast of the Rosary began with this unbelievable win for the vastly outnumbered Catholics vs the Muslims in 1571 ⬇️

October 7, 1571. In the waters off Lepanto, Greece, two fleets met that would decide the fate of the Mediterranean.

The Ottoman navy was larger, battle-hardened, and riding a wave of conquest. Facing them was the Holy League — a fragile alliance of Christian ships under the young Don John of Austria.

Pope St. Pius V, a Dominican, knew weapons alone would not be enough. He called the whole of Christendom to take up another weapon: the Holy Rosary.

Churches in Rome were kept open. Families, priests, and religious across Europe took up their beads. On the ships themselves, every sailor was given a rosary. The night before the battle, men knelt on the decks and prayed.

The next day the fighting was savage. Galleys locked together. Smoke covered the sea. Then the Christian line held — and broke the enemy.

Ali Pasha, the Ottoman commander, fell. Dozens of ships were sunk or captured. Thousands of Christian slaves chained to the oars were set free.

Hundreds of miles away in Rome, Pius V suddenly rose from a meeting, looked out a window, and told those with him to stop their business and give thanks to God. The fleet, he said, had already won. The official news would not reach the city for weeks.

In gratitude he established the feast of Our Lady of Victory — the feast we now keep on October 7 as Our Lady of the Rosary.

Lepanto did not end every threat. It did something else: it taught a wounded Church that heaven still answers when the people of God take up Mary’s beads with faith.

The same Rosary is in our hands today.Pray it for the Church.Pray it for peace.Pray it for your family.
