Today, HopeWood Outdoors celebrates Memorial Day. We remember those who served our country and sacrificed their lives. On this Memorial Day, we remember that part of our organization’s history is an intentional memorial for those who had served and sacrificed. During World War II, many congregations began searching for ways to memorialize sons and daughters who had served their country. Even before the war began, area congregations dreamed of a camp to provide faith formation for youth. The ideas soon merged, and the hope of a memorial camp was born. In October 1944, the task of selecting a site began. On October 24, 1948, Lutheran Memorial Camp was officially dedicated at its current site in Morrow County, OH.
