Meet our new Stake Presidency!

Dear Brother and Sisters,

The following is a brief introduction to our new Stake Presidency. Please take a moment to read this short introduction so that you may get to know us a little better. Below, you can also see a photo of us with our wives. Please say hello and introduce yourself when you see us at church or in the community.

President Benjamin Cummings and his wife, Kaylyn, met at Utah State University and were married in the Logan Temple. President Cummings grew up in Clinton, Utah, and Sister Cummings grew up in Hyrum, Utah. They have lived different places throughout the country for school and work and have lived in Mapleton for the past 7 years. They have six children (including one angel) who keep life busy and fun! President Cummings is a professor at UVU and a financial advisor. As a family, they enjoy playing games, hiking, exploring God's beautiful creations, and just spending time together. President and Sister Cummings share, "God is involved in the details and timing of our lives. We know He knows and cares for each of us individually. He knows each of our imperfections and strengths and is willing to meet us where we are and bring us all back to Him. We love Him and are humbled by this opportunity to serve."

President Darin Eckton (First Counselor) and his wife, Betsy, are parents to 6 children (5 alive and 1 in heaven) ages 24 to 15, and a son-in-law. Darin was born and raised in Redlands, California and Betsy grew up in the Seattle area of Washington. You may find Darin running or riding his bike around the streets or trails of the Mapleton area (please say hello). President Eckton served in the Argentina Bahia Blanca mission and has only ever spoken Spanish to his children since their birth. Sister Eckton also speaks Spanish. They both love languages, the arts, and have an enormous costume collection. In response to a prompting he received in 1998, he has been studying Portuguese every day since then and is excited to improve by connecting with the Portuguese ward members. President and Sister Eckton have a non-profit organization that allows them to act on their love for languages, travel, and humanitarian work. President and Sister Eckton both earned their doctorate degrees in educational leadership--he is a professor at UVU, she retired after 30 years in the Nebo School District and still teaches as an adjunct professor for both BYU and UVU. Of their opportunity to serve they unitedly shared, “We love our Savior Jesus Christ! We will strive to get to know, connect, and serve together with the members of this stake to help all feel a stronger sense of covenant belonging to one another and to Him. We know He is the source of healing, happiness, and hope, and that as we strive to follow His teachings found in the scriptures and his modern-day prophets and apostles, we can find joy in this life and everlasting joy in the eternities.”

President Geoff Wright (Second Counselor), his wife Leah, and their three children (Isaac, 19; Lucy, 16; and Kate, 13) have lived in Mapleton for 14 years. As a family they love skiing, boating, climbing, and biking. President Wright was raised in British Columbia, Canada, and Sister Wright was raised in Corvallis, Oregon. President Wright served a mission in Marseille, France, attended BYU where he met Sister Wright, and works as a professor of Technology and Engineering Studies at BYU. Regarding his recent calling to the stake presidency, he and his wife shared: “We are grateful for this opportunity of growth and service. We know we have a loving Heavenly Father. We have felt and seen His love through the service of so many faithful saints. We know we have a Savior who is keenly aware of us, and that it is by and through His grace and atonement that we spiritually mature and are saved. We know the Book of Mormon contains the words and will of God and feel closer to my Savior as we read and study it. We also testify that we have a living prophet who guides and directs God’s true church.”

We look forward to getting to know and serving you, fellowshipping together, and loving you as the Savior would, building on the great efforts of our dear predecessors and friends.
With love,
The Cummings, Ecktons, and Wrights
(From left to right, Leah & Geoff Wright, Kaylyn & Benjamin Cummings, Darin & Betsy Eckton)

Elder Patrick Kearon has been called as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called on Thursday, December 7, 2023, and ordained later that day by President Russell M. Nelson and the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest presiding body in the government of the Church. In addition to their primary responsibility to be special witnesses of the name of Christ throughout the world, these Apostles have significant administrative responsibilities in overseeing the operation and development of a global Church. They serve under the direction of the First Presidency, which includes the Church President and two counselors.

Elder Kearon, who has served as the senior president of the Presidency of the Seventy since August 2020, fills the vacancy created by the death of President M. Russell Ballard, who passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
